Yokohama City Fire Bureau carry out drill on moored vessel

The first fire drill in Japan to be performed on a moored vessel has been conducted by Yokohama City Fire Bureau.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) paired up with the city’s fire team to carry our the drill at Yokohama Port.

Moored Vessel Drill

A car carrier called TETHYS HIGHWAY was used in the drill which involved over 100 personnel.

In the simulation, an emergency situation emerged when a fire broke out on board during cargo handling operations.

One member of crew was “missing” and the captain was left on board. The source of the fire was identified using drones, and water was sprayed from elevation and fire boats.

The teams also practiced confirming evacuation routes, immediate notification systems, and rescuing people on board.
