Hochiki Partners On Finnish Fire Detection System

Hochiki Europe has partnered with VOLT EHF, a specialist in electrical and fire alarm systems, to install a comprehensive and scalable fire detection system at the Fjarðargata development in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. This landmark project is a mixed-use complex that blends modern architecture with historic structures, creating an interconnected space that includes apartments, a hotel, a shopping mall, restaurants, offices, and a library. To ensure robust life safety across this diverse and expanding environment, the developers chose Hochiki Europe’s fire detection and alarm systems. VOLT EHF’s owner and lead engineer, Sigmar Örn Arnarson, began the partnership by visiting Hochiki Europe’s headquarters. He received hands-on training at the Hochiki Training Academy and toured the manufacturing floor, which highlighted the engineering precision and quality control behind every product. This experience solidified their decision to choose Hochiki for this prestigious project. At the heart of the system is Hochiki’s Latitude fire control panel. Its scalability and flexible configuration are ideal for large, multi-use complexes like Fjarðargata, with capacity built-in for future expansion. The system seamlessly integrates with the site’s Building Management System, providing a centralised view of all building services. Its strong false alarm reduction performance and discreet, aesthetically pleasing devices were also key factors in its selection. The Latitude panel supports 38 languages, and Sigmar and his team provided instrumental assistance with the Icelandic translation, ensuring a user-friendly solution for the local market. “The hands-on training at the Hochiki Academy gave us confidence going into the project,” said Sigmar Örn Arnarson. “The installation went very smoothly, and the support from Hochiki Europe was five-star. It’s clear we chose the right partner.” The Hochiki solution is currently installed in the hotel and residential areas, including a full suite of ESP intelligent devices. Further plans are underway to extend protection to the rest of the complex, with the hotel’s developers requesting the inclusion of base sounder beacons for enhanced safety.

Who’s Who – TLX Fire & Security

TLX Fire & Security delivers cutting-edge actuation technologies for fire suppression systems worldwide, with customisable, certified solutions engineered for performance, reliability, and compliance. Contact information: TLX Technologies N27 W23727 Paul Road Pewaukee, WI 53072 USA +1 262-372-2165 sales@tlxtech.com Tlxfire.com TLX Fire & Security is a pioneer in the design and production of actuation solutions and integrated technologies for the global fire suppression market. We offer a range of products for fire suppression systems that can be customised to your specifications, and our engineering expertise helps you achieve UL, FM, CE, LPCB, and VdS certifications and listings. Our selection of electric actuators for fire suppression systems includes solutions for both non-hazardous environments and hazardous gas environments. They also feature integrated supervision, which eliminates the need for an additional supervisory component and electrical connection and satisfies NFPA 2001: Sec. 4.3.4.1 and EN 15004-1 supervision requirements. Our linear electric actuators are UL 864 Recognized Components for fixed gaseous fire suppression systems and come in three sizes to accommodate the operating pressure of any system up to 300 bar. They provide ultrafast response and are resettable after activation. The discharge valve interface on all our fire suppression actuators can be customised to fit your system. We configure mounting thread, connector type (male or female), firing pin stick out, and firing pin geometry to your specifications. Because many fire suppression systems rely on multiple cylinders, we offer pneumatic actuators that are compatible with our electric actuators. When the electric actuator fires, discharge pressure triggers the pneumatic actuator, releasing the extinguishing agent stored in its corresponding cylinder. We also provide manual actuation options, which attach to the top of our electric actuators, to enable manual activation of your system. Manual reset tool options are also available so that any of our electric actuators can be reset after activation. Featured Product Our Explosion Proof Actuator with Supervision is UL HazLoc, ATEX, and IECEx certified for use in hazardous gas locations, and its force output can be specified to accommodate systems with operating pressures up to 300 bar. This solution is uniquely designed as a top-mounted linear actuator, so it does not act as a pressure vessel on the discharge valve, reducing the number of potential leak points in the system. Due to specific design features and material grade selection, this actuator acts as its own enclosure, eliminating the need for additional components. All potential flame paths are designed to stop flame egress, preventing external flame propagation if a spark were to ignite any gas found within the actuator. Your Fire Protection Partner If you have a unique challenge and need a new solution, we will work closely with you to develop and produce an innovative product tailored to your application. From the initial conversations through production, our team will give your project their personal attention, and you will have direct access to technical and engineering resources throughout the entire process. Our headquarters and design center are located in the United States, and we offer localised production in both the United States and China.

Who’s Who – Super Vac

Super Vac is the world’s leading ventilation equipment manufacturer for firefighting and industrial applications. Contact information: 3842 Redman Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80550, United States +1 800-525-5224 info@supervac.com Supervac.com Every fireground is different, so when it comes to fire ventilation — the planned and systematic removal of heat, smoke and gases from a structure, followed by the introduction of fresh, cool air — there’s no one-size-fits-all ventilation tactic. Should your crew take out a window on the fire floor for horizontal ventilation, send the ladder company to the roof for vertical ventilation or opt for mechanical ventilation, like power venting or positive- or negative-pressure tactics? Compound these choices with the dynamics of the scene — building size, room geometry, interior contents and construction materials — and you can see ventilation is an art that requires the right tools. That’s where Super Vac comes in. The world leader in emergency ventilation equipment, Super Vac equips crews with a versatile array of only the toughest solutions, including the industry’s largest lineup of PPV fans, spanning from 20- to 203-cm blades, as well as smoke ejectors, available in 30- 40-, 50 and 60-cm blades. In addition to a wide variety of fan sizes, departments can choose from an array of fan power sources, including battery, electric, petrol and water turbine. Super Vac also manufactures rescue saws, rehab misters and other necessities to keep the fireground safe. Super Vac will display its ventilation lineup at both Intersec and Interschutz 2025 and has plans to unveil its already popular battery fan with boosted output at the two international shows. Show goers can also expect to see the rollout of Super Vac’s Stilh battery-powered fan, which joins Super Vac’s lineup of non-proprietary battery platforms, featuring DeWalt, Lukas, Makita and Milwaukee batteries. The manufacturer prides itself on building battery fans that are compatible with crew’s other battery-powered tools. Last but not least, Super Vac’s largest, most powerful fan — the 48” SVU — has been a staple in large-scale ventilation. In 2024, Super Vac delivered eight gas-powered SVUs to Dubai with the help of its dealer, NAFFCO. Each fan delivers a whopping 200,000 cfm of airflow to help ventilate structures like airport terminals, manufacturing facilities, large warehouse, commercial structures and high-rise buildings. The SVU can be mounted on a truck, flatbed, trailer or skid unit for mobility. Ducts and misting attachments make this fan even more versatile, while the fan itself is designed to raise 30”, rotate 20 degrees and tilt +/0 20-degrees up or down for maximum airflow control. Established in the mid 1930s, Super Vac has been delivering ventilation solutions for decades and has been a long-standing partner with United States Navy, which uses Super Vac’s smoke ventilators for onboard ship emergencies. Additionally, Super Vac prides itself on building fans that are third-party certified by AMCA, the Air Movement Control Association. Super Vac’s latest battery fans are 240-22 certified, tested to the latest battery fan standard. This new standard meets international standards for smaller doors, constant power supply and documentation of runtimes.
