Fire-Dex Unveils First PPE Designed for Fire Investigators

Fire-Dex has announced the launch of its new Fire Investigation PPE, the first protective ensemble created specifically for fire investigators. The patent-pending design addresses a long-standing protection gap between heavy structural turnouts and basic single-layer garments, providing the right balance of safety, mobility and breathability.

For decades, fire investigators have been forced to choose between overbuilt fireground gear or inadequate alternatives. Fire-Dex worked closely with leading investigators to design a solution that meets the unique demands of post-fire environments without compromise.

Investigators asked for waterproofing that would not trap heat, gear that would help them stay cool in warm conditions, and storage suited to their specialist tools. Fire-Dex responded with a purpose-built garment that protects where it is needed most, limits heat stress and supports long hours on the job.

“Everything we design at Fire-Dex is designed to help first responders be at their best,” said Todd Herring, Vice President, Product Innovation and Strategy at Fire-Dex. “Being at your best means that you are protected but free to do the work you need to do. For years, Fire-Dex has been at the forefront of PPE fit and function, innovating with unique patterns, radically redesigned garments and utilising the latest in material science. We brought all that to this PPE to finally give fire investigators the gear they’ve been asking for.”

The Fire Investigation PPE introduces a new approach to protection for post-fire work, featuring:

  • Smart waterproofing that covers key exposure points while maintaining ventilation.
  • Integrated knee pads to support kneeling and climbing during investigations.
  • Strategic venting panels, using the same patent-pending technology as Fire-Dex’s AeroFlex turnouts, for enhanced breathability without compromising particulate protection.
  • Pass-through pockets for firearms, identification or specialised tools.
  • Waterproof phone storage, allowing safe and convenient access on-site.

The garment is built using TECGEN51 fabric, Fire-Dex’s exclusive, lightweight and durable material trusted by thousands of first responders. Its balance of strength and breathability forms the foundation of the new PPE, offering dependable protection from hazards such as sharp debris, contaminants and unstable structures commonly found in post-fire scenes.

The Fire Investigation PPE also integrates into Fire-Dex’s non-structural PPE ecosystem. When combined with Dex-Rescue Gloves, FDXL90 Boots and particulate-blocking hoods, it forms a full lightweight ensemble designed to maximise safety and performance.

This innovation reinforces Fire-Dex’s reputation as the fastest-growing manufacturer of head-to-toe PPE for first responders. The Fire Investigation PPE is now available for purchase via Fire-Dex distributors upon request for a quote.
