By combining intuitive digital control systems with next-generation vehicle architecture, Ideatec is helping to redefine operational efficiency and system integration across modern emergency and specialist vehicle fleets  As emergency vehicles become increasingly electrified and digitally integrated, the demands placed on onboard control systems are evolving rapidly. Space within vehicle cabins is becoming more limited, operational expectations are increasing, and manufacturers are under growing pressure to deliver technology that is both highly sophisticated and intuitive to use.  For Ideatec, a company specialising in electronic control systems for emergency, utility and converted vehicles, these developments are shaping both product innovation and long-term strategy.  Connecting the dots Since taking over leadership of the company in 2022, CEO Laurent Fayet has focused on combining operational simplicity with technological integration, positioning the business around the practical realities faced by emergency services and vehicle upfitters today.  “I started my career in the financial sector before moving into IT, where I specialised in transforming underperforming teams and organisations,” he explains.  “After that, I founded a company specialising in data science and big data, and between 2015 and 2022, I worked as a consultant for large international companies. In 2021, I decided I wanted to build something with greater long-term purpose and operational impact.  “That was when I came across Ideatec. What immediately stood out to me was both the company’s significant growth potential and its strong technological positioning within the sector.”  Although his background is not rooted in engineering, L. Fayet believes his broad professional experience has provided the foundations required to successfully lead an industrial technology business.  “You need to understand how to lead a business, fully understand your products and, most importantly, anticipate the evolving expectations of both the market and your customers.”  Control systems for emergency and specialist vehicles Ideatec develops intelligent, centralised control systems capable of managing all auxiliary electronic equipment installed within emergency and specialist vehicles.  “Every emergency vehicle begins as a standard platform before being transformed into a highly specialised operational asset,” L. Fayet explains.  “That equipment is not managed by the vehicle’s original control architecture. Ideatec designs and develops control systems capable of integrating and managing equipment such as sirens, emergency lighting, heating, ventilation and many other onboard electronic functions.”  Through digital interfaces, touchscreens and integrated control environments, operators can manage all critical onboard systems from a single intuitive platform.  Ideatec operates across both the blue-light emergency services sector and the amber-light utility and specialist fleet markets.  “The blue-light market covers ambulance, police and fire services, while the amber-light sector includes utility, roadside assistance and specialist commercial fleets. Today, we are present in more than 20 countries.”  Its systems are already extensively deployed across European emergency fleets.  “We equip all ambulances in Belgium, as well as many ambulances in France and the Netherlands. We also work with police forces in Belgium and the Netherlands, alongside numerous fire departments in France, Germany and Belgium.”  TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE READ THE LATEST ISSUE HERE.

Interschutz Exhibitor Profile: Fogmaker

As electric vehicles reshape transport and industry, fire safety professionals must adapt suppression strategies. High-pressure water mist technology offers rapid cooling and effective protection for high-voltage environments. Hall 13, Stand C79/2 Find out more: fogmaker.com  As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to expand across global markets, from public transport and construction to mining and agriculture, the fire safety challenges they bring are evolving just as quickly.   For fire safety professionals, adapting to this high-voltage reality means rethinking traditional suppression systems and adopting technologies designed for today’s mobility landscape.   At Fogmaker International AB, we have developed fire suppression solutions for complex, enclosed engine environments since 1995. As battery electric (BEVs) and hybrid powertrains become the new normal, our work is more important than ever.   Understanding fire risks in electric vehicles   While EVs are generally safe, their fire risk profile differs significantly from that of combustion engines. Fires in electric vehicles are often caused by collisions or fires that start in a more traditional place than the battery pack, but once the batteries are affected, temperatures can rise rapidly, ignite adjacent cells and release toxic gases. Research has shown that many of the fires in BEVs do not originate or even have a link to the battery itself, but it is also known that the severity when a fire gets to the battery is high.   Battery fires present several challenges. They can reignite long after appearing extinguished, are difficult to access because battery packs are well protected and are located in compact spaces within the vehicle. These characteristics demand suppression systems that activate automatically, respond rapidly and provide strong cooling performance.   In addition, emergency responders must consider the extended duration of EV battery incidents. Fires can burn for longer periods and may require sustained cooling to prevent thermal runaway from spreading to neighbouring cells within the battery pack.  Why high-pressure water-based mist works   High-pressure water mist systems provide an effective solution for enclosed vehicle environments. Fogmaker’s system produces micro-droplets with a large, combined surface area that absorbs heat quickly, chokes the fire, and cools the affected area.   The technology offers several important advantages:   Rapid flame knockdown   Efficient cooling to reduce the risk of re-ignition   Minimal water consumption   Safe operation around sensitive electronics   Automatic activation independent of vehicle power supply   Real-World Readiness: From buses to heavy equipment Fogmaker has equipped buses and other vehicles with our suppression systems for the past 30 years, working closely with original equipment manufacturers and operators to ensure seamless integration and dependable protection. From urban transit vehicles to underground mining equipment, our solutions are battle-tested in some of the world’s toughest environments.   Every application is unique, and we offer modular design and global service support.    As electric mobility continues to grow, reliable fire protection will remain essential. With decades of experience protecting vehicles in demanding environments worldwide, Fogmaker delivers solutions that combine safety, sustainability, and performance.
