By combining intuitive digital control systems with next-generation vehicle architecture, Ideatec is helping to redefine operational efficiency and system integration across modern emergency and specialist vehicle fleets
As emergency vehicles become increasingly electrified and digitally integrated, the demands placed on onboard control systems are evolving rapidly. Space within vehicle cabins is becoming more limited, operational expectations are increasing, and manufacturers are under growing pressure to deliver technology that is both highly sophisticated and intuitive to use.
For Ideatec, a company specialising in electronic control systems for emergency, utility and converted vehicles, these developments are shaping both product innovation and long-term strategy.
Connecting the dots
Since taking over leadership of the company in 2022, CEO Laurent Fayet has focused on combining operational simplicity with technological integration, positioning the business around the practical realities faced by emergency services and vehicle upfitters today.
“I started my career in the financial sector before moving into IT, where I specialised in transforming underperforming teams and organisations,” he explains.
“After that, I founded a company specialising in data science and big data, and between 2015 and 2022, I worked as a consultant for large international companies. In 2021, I decided I wanted to build something with greater long-term purpose and operational impact.
“That was when I came across Ideatec. What immediately stood out to me was both the company’s significant growth potential and its strong technological positioning within the sector.”
Although his background is not rooted in engineering, L. Fayet believes his broad professional experience has provided the foundations required to successfully lead an industrial technology business.
“You need to understand how to lead a business, fully understand your products and, most importantly, anticipate the evolving expectations of both the market and your customers.”
Control systems for emergency and specialist vehicles
Ideatec develops intelligent, centralised control systems capable of managing all auxiliary electronic equipment installed within emergency and specialist vehicles.
“Every emergency vehicle begins as a standard platform before being transformed into a highly specialised operational asset,” L. Fayet explains.
“That equipment is not managed by the vehicle’s original control architecture. Ideatec designs and develops control systems capable of integrating and managing equipment such as sirens, emergency lighting, heating, ventilation and many other onboard electronic functions.”
Through digital interfaces, touchscreens and integrated control environments, operators can manage all critical onboard systems from a single intuitive platform.
Ideatec operates across both the blue-light emergency services sector and the amber-light utility and specialist fleet markets.
“The blue-light market covers ambulance, police and fire services, while the amber-light sector includes utility, roadside assistance and specialist commercial fleets. Today, we are present in more than 20 countries.”
Its systems are already extensively deployed across European emergency fleets.
“We equip all ambulances in Belgium, as well as many ambulances in France and the Netherlands. We also work with police forces in Belgium and the Netherlands, alongside numerous fire departments in France, Germany and Belgium.”
