Women Talking Fire: Empowering women in the UK fire safety industry

Women Talking Fire (WTF), an independent networking and support group for women and male allies in the UK fire safety industry, was founded in May 2023. The organisation aims to bring together women in the field, ensuring they are visibly represented in industry media and at key events. This visibility is crucial, as it helps women see role models who reflect their own experiences and aspirations. The group has garnered significant interest, boasting over 1,200 followers and almost 600 members on its closed LinkedIn group.

Upcoming Workshop on Confidence, Communication and Career Progression

WTF will host a workshop on 6 March 2025, focusing on confidence, communication, and career progression. The event, led by award-winning Business Leader and Executive Coach Manjit Mandeir, promises a relaxed yet engaging day designed to equip participants with practical skills and strategies for professional growth. Manjit, known for her passion for leadership and personal development, has a proven track record of delivering impactful coaching programs that enhance both personal and revenue growth.

The workshop, to be held at the ASFP Academy in Coventry, is an opportunity for delegates to network with like-minded professionals while learning how to communicate effectively and raise their personal brand. To encourage participation, a discount at a local hotel has been arranged, and a pre-event social gathering will be held at a nearby pub. Tickets for the workshop are priced at £75, with an early bird discount available for bookings made before the end of the year. With only 50 places available, those interested are encouraged to secure their tickets early via the Women Talking Fire website. The event is made possible thanks to the support of sponsor LGM Products and the ASFP Academy for providing the venue.

A Year of Progress and Engagement

In its inaugural year, Women Talking Fire has already made a significant impact. The group organised a technical conference in Leeds, attended by 150 delegates, and hosted social events in London and Bury. Additionally, a survey was conducted to gain insights into the views and experiences of men and women in the UK fire safety industry. WTF also collaborated with major industry events, including The Fire Safety Event 2024 and London Build 2024, to ensure women’s voices were heard and represented.

Looking Ahead: Plans for the Future

Building on the success of its first year, Women Talking Fire has ambitious plans for the coming year. Following a successful event in September 2024, the group will host another Firefighting Awareness Day with Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service on 20 June 2025. Efforts to strengthen partnerships with industry exhibitions will continue, with collaborations lined up for Fire Buyer, The Fire Safety Event 2025, London Build 2025, and Firex 2025. Looking further ahead, WTF is planning events for 2026, including a workshop on women’s health and another technical conference.

Women Talking Fire is committed to creating an inclusive community where women in the fire safety industry can learn, grow, and thrive. Through networking opportunities, educational workshops, and strategic partnerships, the group continues to empower women to achieve their full potential while encouraging a more diverse and inclusive industry.
