Industry leaders support new aircraft rescue & fire-fighting event

Big names support ARFF 2013 in Dubai

ARFF 2013 – (AIRCRAFT RESCUE & FIRE FIGHTING) 10-11 DECEMBER 2013, The Oberoi Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates is being supported by all the big names in the ARFF industry.

IAFPA – International Aviation Fire Protection Association launched the event to bring together the global ARFF industry at one of the world’s leading hubs – Dubai. The purpose of such an important event is to prepare the Fire Fighting teams at airports for the “mayday mayday” scenarios they can face.

The event will feature a high level conference with presentations from the world’s leading airports where ARFF teams are trained and experienced. Speakers from global airports include Dallas Fort Worth International, Edinburgh, Changi, Glasgow & many more. These speakers will talk about their first-hand experience of various incidents they have faced such as Changi Airport who dealt with the Qantas Airways emergency in 2010. The Qantas A380 dumped fuel and circled the skies over Singapore before it was allowed to make an emergency landing at the city’s Changi Airport Terminal 1. Cletus Packiam, Chief, AES at Changi Airport, Singapore will tell how his team handled the incident. Opening the event and setting the regional scene will be a keynote presented by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The associated exhibition will also include participation from fire fighting and protection suppliers. The theme of the event is to build preparedness for the airports – emerging technologies and new state of the art equipment play a vital role in today’s ARFF fire fighting. Regional companies include the International College of Engineering in Oman whilst International representation comes from companies including Oshkosh, Rosenbauer, Kidde Fire Trainers, Solberg Foam & Kronenburg.

The two day event is set to host up to 200 attendees with over 100 confirmed to date. Chief Fire Officers are already confirmed from 20 Airports from around the world ranging from London Gatwick to Brunei International Airport, Hawaii to Iran. ARFF 2013 will be a truly global event with attendees from 18 countries already attending.

The event has the official support of Dubai Airports with a delegation from Dubai lead by the Chief Fire Officer Khalid Al Muhairi. Other airports in the region including Fujairah, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi will also be attending. The General Civil Aviation Authority will be sending a delegation and across the region Chief Fire Officers from other GCC nations will be attending including Oman and Kuwait.

Industry leading publications Crisis Response Journal, Arabian Aerospace Fire Middle East, Fire Buyer, Fire Times & Fire Product Search are all supporting the event which will run biennially from 2014 using Dubai as its global base.

ARFF 2013 is set to become a very important global aviation event where companies and individuals can network, train and do business over two valuable days.

Khalid Al Muhairi, Chief Fire Officer, Dubai Airports said “It is a great pleasure for Dubai to host such an important event for the Aviation Fire industry as ARFF 2013. We invest a lot of time and resource into developing our ARFF teams at the airports here and across the UAE and we welcome hosting global forums such as these in Dubai.”
