PPG has introduced PPG Steelguard 652, a high performance, water based intumescent coating developed for interior general purpose structural steelwork in North America.
The cellulosic passive fire protection coating provides up to two hours of fire resistance and is certified to UL 263, offering assurance of compliance with recognised fire test standards.
According to the company, the product has been formulated with low volatile organic compounds to support more sustainable construction practices and to facilitate efficient trade stacking on complex project sites.
Twenty Year Life
PPG states that Steelguard 652 delivers up to 20 years of durability, combining fire performance with physical properties including low certified thickness, high bond strength and high impact resistance. The coating can be applied on site using standard passive fire protection airless spray equipment to achieve smooth and consistent coverage.
Richard Mann, PPG global product development director, fire protection, Protective and Marine Coatings, said: “PPG Steelguard 652 coating expands our range of certified solutions for North American projects and reflects our ongoing commitment to fire protection innovation. It stands out for its innovative fire performance and physical properties, including low certified thickness, high bond strength and high impact resistance, providing lasting durability for up to 20 years.”
