Patol acquired by Sdiptech

Fire detection specialist Patol has announced that the company has been purchased by Swedish technology group, Sdiptech. The purchase makes Patol the 12th business in the UK to be added to Sdiptech’s portfolio and it joins the group’s Special Infrastructure Solutions Business Unit. Patol has been manufacturing and supplying fire detection solutions across a wide range of industrial sectors since it was founded in 1968. Under private ownership throughout this time, this announcement marks a significant investment from an international technology group based in Sweden that specialises in creating more sustainable, efficient and safer societies. The acquisition also sees Sdiptech taking ownership of Patol’s sister company, Linesense, which will continue to offer Linear Heat Detection Cable (LHDC) solutions for specialist applications such as transportation, petrochemical sites and tunnels. Commenting on the announcement, Iain Cumner, Managing Director of Patol, said: “We are delighted to become part of Sdiptech, our new long term owner. The Group’s wide ranging experience in a number of different fields will prove invaluable in continuing to develop the Patol business. “I have already met a number of senior personnel from other companies within the Group and the opportunity to discuss areas of common ground, as well as learning from their own experiences, is providing much food for thought and ideas which we can implement and build upon to further improve our offering in fire safety products and systems. “It is an excellent fit for us and I look forward to working with the team at Sdiptech and sister-companies as we look to build on more than 50 years of protecting people and property from the threat of fire.” Johan Lahiri, Business Unit Manager of Special Infrastructure Solutions at Sdiptech, said: “As a business we recognise that a well-functioning infrastructure is vital to our societies and everyday lives. Telgian appoints new VP Finance/Controller

Telgian Fire Safety has announced the appointment of Kirk Untersee as Vice President of Finance / Controller. In this position, Untersee will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, preparing operating budgets and performing essential financial duties related to both payroll and operations. Untersee is an accounting professional who possesses extensive experience in all aspects of finance and accounting for the manufacturing, service and construction industries. His skills include the creation of annual operating plans and forecasts, as well as the monitoring of actuals vs. forecasts. In addition, his prior experience as a Plant Manager will provide a unique perspective, as well as a deeper understanding, of the essential connection between finance and operations. Untersee earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in business administration from Illinois State University. ASFP shortlisted for two Association awards

The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has been shortlisted for two awards in the Trade Association Forum’s (TAF’s) Best Practice Awards. The Awards, supported by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, recognise, reward and promote best practice among trade associations in the UK. Awards range across 17 categories under the three thematic areas of Engage, Improve, and Lead. The ASFP is delighted to have made the shortlist for awards in two of the three thematic areas by clearly demonstrating an increased level of membership engagement and the Association’s work to develop solutions to support skills development priorities for its members and the industry. The Engage theme recognises leadership in engaging with members, their teams and their stakeholders. ASFPTV, the ASFP’s YouTube channel, has been shortlisted for the Membership Engagement Award in this category. The channel’s depth, breadth of programming, reach, capacity to engage and ability to inform has improved ASFP’s member engagement. The platform has been used to a high level with the development of five distinct series that split content into technical information, ASFP news, and member-based content. ASFPTV has helped make content more digestible, accessible, engaging and understandable for members. It has given members a platform that they can use to advertise and find new audiences, while allowing the ASFP to quickly get information out to members, and the wider industry, keeping everyone up to date with the latest news. The ASFP’s Competency Pathway has made the shortlist for the Skills Development Award under the Improve theme, which recognises associations that drive improvement in their operations and effectiveness. The ASFP has developed a series of passive fire protection training courses, across multiple platforms. These significant developments will culminate in the establishment of a full Competency Pathway for passive fire protection. This will be aligned to the RIBA Plan of Works for the design and construction process and reflect the SKEB (Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours) across all associated stakeholders. The Competency Pathway is ASFP’s proactive response to the Grenfell disaster and recognises the need to improve all areas of SKEB across the entire design, product development, procurement, installation, and sign off process for passive fire protection systems. ASFP Business Manager Mike Ward commented: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for these two prestigious awards, which clearly recognise the ASFP’s dedication to improving and developing the services we offer to our members. These initiatives have already delivered huge dividends and are a testament to the continued commitment and enthusiasm of the ASFP team. “Member engagement has grown by 40% over the last two years and our comprehensive training courses ensure that our members can widen and evidence their skills. Our qualifications framework allows ASFP members and others to clearly demonstrate their competence. Once fully developed, our Competency Pathway will offer a clear route for all working in the design and construction sector to achieving the appropriate competency in passive fire protection.” The Award winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Brewery, London on 23 February. Rosenbauer wins Pomerania contract

Rosenbauer has again been entrusted with the manufacture and delivery of firefighting vehicles by the State Office for Central Tasks and Technology of the Police, Fire Protection, and Disaster Control of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After winning the contract for 265 portable water pump vehicles (TSF-W) three years ago, the new order includes up to 40 fire engines (LF 20) in accordance with DIN 14530-11, the orders for 37 of which have already been confirmed. The prototype vehicle will be produced in the first half of 2023, with series production beginning after its acceptance. From 2024, the firefighting vehicles will be handed over to the State Office in monthly instalments, with the State Office then distributing them to the individual fire departments. Rosenbauer will equip the vehicles with an AT body, one of the hallmarks of which is the integrated double crew cab with automatic revolving doors for safe entry and exit. The LF 20s are built on an MB Atego 150 AF chassis, with all-wheel drive and twin tires on the rear axle and a total permissible weight of 16 tons. The extinguishing technology consists of a Rosenbauer N25 fire pump (FPN 10-2000), which can also be switched on while driving for pump & roll operation at walking speed, as well as the Rosenbauer RFC Admix Variomatic 12 pressure proportioning system (EN 16327), which can deliver up to twelve liters of foam compound per minute and supply three spray points with a continuously adjustable proportioning rate of between 0.1% (wetting agent operation) and 6%. The water tank has a usable capacity of 2,500 litres, with the foam tank having a capacity of 120 litres. The extensive vehicle equipment also includes a NAUTILUS submersible pump, a FANERGY high-performance fan, an RS 14 SUPER SILENT power generator, and the new Rosenbauer RTE one-person reel hose. A new training method Rosenbauer is also breaking new ground with its portable fire pump vehicles. For the first time, as the result of a request from the State Office of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, vehicle training is offered online. This both saves the fire departments travel time and provides crew members with the opportunity to complete the training at any time. After receiving personalised access to the Rosenbauer e-learning platform, drivers and machinists are familiarised with all the functions of the TSF-W and its operation through numerous and detailed videos, then complete a test at the end and receive a certificate to print out upon passing. NFPA releases 21st edition handbook

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released its 21st edition of the Fire Protection Handbook (FPH). The two-volume printed set is now available for pre-order. One of the organisation’s most significant publications, the Handbook is a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind reference guide of fire and life safety prevention and protection information for students and professionals across a wide range of industries worldwide. “The NFPA Fire Protection Handbook is the most comprehensive industry resource for professionals who need to be well informed and stay current in their field,” said NFPA President and CEO Jim Pauley. “It is the fire protection encyclopaedia and there is no other resource like it anywhere in the world.” First published in 1896 as the Handbook of the Underwriter’s Bureau of New England, the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook provides exclusive content unparalleled anywhere else in the industry. Securex West Africa is set to return in May for its eleventh edition alongside the co-located Firexpo West Africa, Smart Cities West Africa and Facilities Management West Africa events. Amthal appoints 6 new staff

Fire safety and security specialist, Amthal is continuing on its ambitious growth plan to service more advanced commercial customers, with six dedicated appointments already in 2023, set across the business.  The new appointments include Amy Bradbury who has joined the commercial team, together with Donna Henderson who has been welcomed as a key account coordinator in the MSR team.  Amthal has also appointed three new MSR Engineers since the start of the year. Continuing its rolling recruitment programme, Amthal is looking to grow its team further with the appointment of a new Business Development Manager, Supply Chain Team Member and a Key Account coordinator to meet increasing customer demand, alongside a number of Engineer roles in commissioning, maintenance and installation.
