One dead as iconic Yangon hotel Kandawhyi Palace destroyed by Myanmar fire

An iconic luxury hotel in the city of Yangon in Myanmar has been devastated by fire to the point the hotel’s now destroyed, leaving one person dead and two injured.
The colossal blaze began at around 03:00 on the 18th October at the Kandawgyi Palace, and was a local landmark which was very popular with tourists due to the way it’s largely made up of teak and built in a traditional Burmese style.
Hundreds of firefighters were required in order to put out the fire, which took them several hours, while over 140 guests were safely evacuated and have since been located in other hotels in Yangon.
So far, it remains unclear how there fire initiated, with various media outlets reporting different things – some claim it’s a gas cylinder explosion, while others believe it was due to electrical wire short-circuiting.
The hotel, which resides by the pictuesque Kandawgyi Lake, is a fairly recently addition in the sense it was built in the 1990s, however the oldest sections there date all the way back to the 1930s, when the site was being used as a rowing club by British army officers.
