Kentec Electronics has unveiled the K-Detect-iON, a calibration-free flammable gas detector designed to deliver rapid, reliable detection as part of a complete fire protection solution for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Engineered to integrate seamlessly with Kentec’s Sigma ZXT extinguishing panels, K-Detect-iON enables real-time monitoring of remote energy storage facilities and fast response in the event of an incident.
Currently the only UL 2075 calibration-free hydrogen sensor on the market, K-Detect-iON requires no calibration for at least 10 years—reducing service costs, minimising disruption and maintaining consistent performance throughout its lifespan.
It provides consistent protection across both EN and UL environments. Sigma ZXT (EN) systems meet EN54 Part 2, EN54 Part 4 and EN12094 Part 1, while Sigma ZXT (UL) systems (certification pending) comply with UL 864 (10th Edition), FM Standards and NFPA 855.
“BESS fire incidents often follow a predictable sequence: cell abuse, off-gassing, then thermal runaway and fire,” explained Derrick Hall, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kentec. “Hydrogen is an early and hazardous indicator — so fast, accurate detection is vital, particularly at remote sites.”
K-Detect-iON detects hydrogen well before it reaches the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), with a full 0–100% LEL range to monitor concentrations from the first trace to hazardous levels. Its fast response time, robust construction, and wide operating temperature range of -30°C to 75°C ensure dependable, false-alarm-free performance even in demanding conditions.
When connected to a Sigma ZXT system, K-Detect-iON can automatically activate extraction vents to release hydrogen, reducing explosion risk, stabilising the environment, and—if required—triggering suppression systems from a single platform.
Additional features include a VOC detection range of 0–500 ppm, three programmable relay outputs, support for single or multiple sensors, and Modbus RTU integration via RS485.
