Fire at primary school in Aberdeen, Scotland requires 45 firefighters to extinguish the blaze

In the early hours of the 13th December, six fire engines were called out to take on a fire which erupted at the Meldrum Primary School in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeen.
The call came through at about 03:00, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were quick on the scene and in force, sending six appliances and 45 firefighters in order to put the fire out.
This was achieved and the firefighters in question used hose-reel jets and breathing apparatus in order to get rid of the fire, which was put out at around 04:45. Fire crews subsequently left the school just before 06:00.
The authorities believe that no-one was harmed in the fire and a police spokesman stated that they don’t believe it to be suspicious, however the school was understandably closed on the 13th for both staff and pupils.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council was on hand to give a comment, and outlined the information required.
“Meldrum School has been closed today (13th December) following a fire over night which has been contained to a ground floor toilet block and small classroom area,” they said.
“This will be fully investigated today and the school will provide updates to parents, carers and teachers during the day.”
