25 people injured following explosion at apartment building in Germany

At least 25 people have been injured with four being described as “severely injured” after an explosion at an apartment building in Wuppertal, a Western city in Germany.
Several fires broke out around the building following the fire with the efforts of firefighters frustrated as parts of the structure continued to collapse.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise which prompted them to run out onto the street in panic, however some residents were trapped inside and were later rescued by firefighters.
The Wuppertal police described the scene as a “picture of devastation” with large parts of the building’s façade crumbling onto the street.
A police investigation has now been launched into the cause of the explosion with police refusing to comment on whether it was terror related.
