3M donates safety equipment to moorland firefighters

3M donates safety equipment to moorland firefighters Fire crews battling moorland blazes in Lancashire and Manchester have received a donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) from 3M.   The science-based technology company gave a total of 150 reusable respirators and 200 flame-retardant bump caps to Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).   The respirator models were the ultra-comfortable Reusable Half Masks 7500 Series by 3M with Particulate Filters 6038 by 3M.   The bumpcaps, which protect wearers’ heads against not only bumps but also ultraviolet rays from the sun, were the Flame Retardant HC23 bump protection caps by 3M. These were added to 3M’s extensive portfolio of innovative PPE solutions when the company acquired premium manufacturer Scott Safety in 2017.   Karis Higson, segment marketing executive for the 3M Personal Safety division, said: “The brave men and women of these two fire and rescue services have been putting themselves in harm’s way to protect local residents in this difficult situation, as they do every day.   “At 3M, we are committed to providing first-class protection against a wide range of workplace hazards, including those faced by emergency services workers, so we wanted to help in any way possible.”   Following a weeks-long heatwave across the UK, up to 200 firefighters have been tackling wildfires in northern England at any one time.   In Lancashire, crews have been tackling two major blazes. The first was the Haslingden A56 grass fire, which started on 5 July and reportedly may have been caused by a discarded cigarette. More than 40 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the fire.   The second was at Winter Hill, near Bolton, where an exclusion zone was created, covering three square miles from Pigeon Tower, Rivington, to Wilton Quarries, near Bolton.   Neil Taylor, service training manager at LFRS, said: “Since the moorland fires broke we have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by businesses and public, who have gone above and beyond to donate items to us in order for us to focus our efforts solely on tackling the fire.   “The donation of masks from 3M has provided us with a reserve of resources should they be required by the many crews working on the moors and the additional feature of sun protection will be a further benefit for our crews. We would like to thank 3M for their generosity.”   Meanwhile, in Manchester, hundreds of firefighters have been tackling a huge moor fire that broke out near Stalybridge on 24 June and later spread to nearby Saddleworth Moor. The fire, which is reportedly being treated as arson, covered an area of seven square miles at its peak. A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “We have been overwhelmed by all the donations we have received over the past three weeks as our firefighters have fought to tackle two major moorland fires in extremely challenging conditions. “These have been unprecedented circumstances for GMFRS and we are really grateful for all the support.”

Beele Engineering develops fire safe plastic transit system

Beele Engineering develops fire safe plastic transit system Beele Engineering has developed a new range of HE plastic transit sleeves and frames to provide for the reliable and comfortable transit of cables and pipes and to provide for a fire-resistant, gas, smoke and watertight seal. The new transit sleeves and frames form part of the NOFIRNO system technology and can be used in various ways, including in sandwich panels.   The HE plastic version enables Beele Engineering to offer solutions that are not only fire safe, but also light-weight. Compared with stainless steel or steel alternatives, the HE plastic version improves working conditions for installers/technicians and makes it possible to achieve substantial savings on transport and storage costs.   The transit sleeves and frames are equipped with a separate flange that is attached to the wall of the sandwich panel using NOFIRNO sealant. The transit sleeves come in a standard 300 mm length. The dimensions of the transit frames are 150 x 150 mm and 150 x 300 mm. The system’s fire resistance was successfully tested in a min. 100 mm thick wall. The rectangular frames have a 5 mm wall thickness and are also available in a divided version for optimal mounting and installation comfort. In this version, a special NOFIRNO gasket is placed between the separate frame components.   After the cables or pipes are put through, the transit frame or the transit sleeve is finished with NOFIRNO sleeves, filler sleeves and sealant. This creates a fully fire‑resistant and smoke, gas and watertight transit seal. The new modules are being used on a large scale in one of the most complex oil and gas projects of TengizChevroil (TCO) in Kazakhstan.

Unique D2x Xenon and LED synchronised beacons approved for Haz. Loc. use in UL1971 public fire systems

Unique D2x Xenon and LED synchronised beacons approved for Haz. Loc. use in UL1971 public fire systems Enhancing life safety by enabling systems integrators to extend automatic fire detection systems into hazardous areas, the D2x family of beacons and combined alarm horn/beacon units from E2S Warning Signals are compliant to UL464 and UL1638/UL1971 for public mode fire alarm installation as emergency signalling devices for the hearing impaired, as well as private mode fire and general signalling applications. All versions feature innovative electronics that automatically synchronise multiple beacons on the same circuit without the need for additional modules to reduce overall system cost and installation time.   The D2x1BLD2-H utilizes an array of high power Cree® LEDs, orientated to optimize visibility in any direction. The D2xB1XH1 5 Joule Xenon strobe beacon and the D2xB1XH2 10 Joule Xenon strobe beacon both offer exceptionally low inrush and operating currents that optimise cable selection and reduce power supply requirements. The D2x units carry global approvals: UL/cUL for Class I Div 2, Class II Div 2, Class I Zone 2/22 and IECEx and ATEX certification for Zone 2 and 22 hazardous area applications. For complete audio-visual notification the D2xC2LD2-H combination unit provides the ultimate in fire signalling. German Fire Protection Association criticise the handling of the Grenfell inquiry

German Fire Protection Association criticise the handling of the Grenfell inquiry The German Fire Protection Association have sent an open letter to the London Fire Commissioner, Dany Cotton which criticises the questioning of London firefighters during the public inquiry into the Grenfell tower tragedy. The full letter can be seen below: Dear London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton, We are writing on behalf of the German Fire Protection Association (vfdb) to you and the London Fire Brigade to express our solidarity and our concern about the Public Inquiry about the Fire at Grenfell Tower on June, 14th 2018, which we follow with interest and amounting worry. As the fire was a major incident with some media coverage also in Germany we started to follow the investigation of the incident and invited one of your leading officers to give a presentation about the incident at our annual conference which Deputy Assistant Commissioner Richard Mills kindly accepted. We learned about facts and challenges and are convinced that lessons can be learned from that fire also in Germany. As all documents that have been discussed so far in the Inquiry are public available it became absolutely clear that building regulations were not fulfilled in a very wide range in Grenfell Tower. As building regulations generally are introduced to provide safety for the inhabitants in case of fire and to provide measures for successful operations of the fire service. The consequences of major failures of compliance with building regulations can hinder escape and fire suppression or make them impossible. We think it is absolutely necessary to be aware of that when addressing actions and decisions which have been made during the night of the fire and it should be kept in mind that the major failing of compliance to the building regulations led to an immense speed in fire travel which was not foreseen and not anticipated. Only one example for the major range of non-compliance with the building regulations is that the fire could spread via the height of the facade from the flat of fire origin to the roof (about 50 m) in only 20 minutes. Anticipated fire spread would be only from one story to the next in about this timeframe. At the same time the fire could re-enter the building because of the kind of façade construction in every flat directly above the flat of fire origin. We believe it is indispensable to take these facts into account especially in the current phase 1 of the Public Inquiry where the factual narrative of the events should be the focus. As we understand it the London Fire Brigade started work on the suppression of the fire inside and outside immediately after arriving at scene. At the same time the rescue operations started as well. This all has to be considered under the major challenges of a not properly working fire lift and ventilation of the lobbies, only a single staircase and the extreme fire spread as well as the smoke filling of the single staircase very early during the fire. Keeping that in mind we observe with increasing irritation the questioning of the London Fire Brigade in the Public Inquiry. As it seems that the questioning implies speculations and assessments which are very inadequate at this time. Especially, when knowing that the London Fire Brigade fire fighters were risking their lives again and again during the night to make the impossible possible. That is the reason why we strongly express to all members of the London Fire Brigade our solidarity and great respect for the performance and efficiency at the night of the fire as well the during the questioning within the Inquiry which is taken with great calmness and professionalism although questions often seem unaware on the issues mentioned above. We understand the demand for complete clarification of backgrounds and events during the night of the fire. In our view that should not divert from the real problem of the major non-compliance of the building regulations of Grenfell Tower. Speculations about the actions of the London Fire Brigade are seen to be inappropriate by us.

At least 50 dead’ as wildfires hit Greece

At least 50 dead’ as wildfires hit Greece At least 50 people are feared dead after wildfires swept across the Attica region around Athens with the seaside village of Mati at the centre of the disaster. According to the Red Cross, 26 bodies have been found in the yard of a villa in Mati which has significantly increased the death toll in what is believed to be Greece’s worst fire crisis in over a decade. Hundreds of firefighters are being required to tackle the blaze and authorities have asked for international assistance as resources become increasingly stretched. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told reporters: “We will do whatever is humanly possible to control it.” The Prime Minister has declared a state of emergency in Attica and announced that all emergency forces have been mobilised. Italy, Germany, Poland and France have all sent help in the form of planes, vehicles and firefighters. However forecasts are showing that temperatures are set to soar again and high winds are due to increase which will fan the flames.

Rosenbauer UK set to exhibit at Emergency Services Show 2018

Rosenbauer UK set to exhibit at Emergency Services Show 2018 Preparation is well underway at Rosenbauer UK as the firm readies itself for exhibiting at Emergency Services Show 2018.   The organisation is taking a large presence at this year’s event – on stand B59 – following a continued period of growth in the municipal and airport markets, which will boost the firm’s revenue by an estimated 250% in 2018.   Rosenbauer UK’s focus across the two-day exhibition is to highlight the efficiency and quality of the products in operation at many of the UK’s Fire and Rescue Services.   And a handful of the firm’s knowledgeable, expert team will be on hand to provide detailed information on the latest evolutions in Rosenbauer UK’s fleet products.   Surrey Fire and Rescue Service’s new ‘Super-Pumper’ will be unveiled at the show, highlighting Rosenbauer’s premium build quality, advanced ergonomics and technologically advanced componentry.   Outside the arena, delegates will be able to ‘fly’ the all-new Rosenbauer XS 3.0 articulated turntable ladder – which provides more outreach, aerial manoeuvrability and a greater rescue capability than any other turntable ladder on the European market.   Commenting on Rosenbauer UK’s presence at ESS, Founder and Managing Director, Oliver North said: “We’re not revealing all just yet, but our immersive stand is designed to ‘wow’, and we want to provide attendees with a taste of what it’s like to work with us.   “Our team of appliance and equipment specialists will be on hand to answer any questions, and we invite open discussion about the challenges faced by brigades, in conjunction with providing answers from a technology perspective.   Oliver continued: “As an organisation, we are obsessed with upgrading equipment, not merely replacing it. The AT-Stinger we developed for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the 42m aerial ladder platform for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and the two Technical Response Units received by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service earlier this year all serve as firm examples of this.   “It is these tailored solutions which help to safeguard any Fire and Rescue Service’s investment in equipment and generate a better whole-life cost, whilst improving operational effectiveness and safety for our brave firefighters. ESS represents an exciting opportunity for delegates to explore for themselves exactly why the market is becoming so passionate about our brand and everything we stand for.”   The Emergency Services Show will take place at the NEC in Birmingham on 19-20 September. Entry is free but registration is advised.

Mouka turns to Bosch for video-based fire detection

Mouka turns to Bosch for video-based fire detection Nigerian mattress and foam-based sleep solution manufacturer, Mouka Limited, has invested in an Aviotec video-based fire detection solution from Bosch to enhance the fire safety at its manufacturing sites in Lagos, Benin and Kaduna. Due to the highly flammable nature of the foam and polyurethane materials used in its products, the manufacturer was looking for a solution that detects fire and smoke in less than 30 seconds – before fire can spread and potentially harm its employees. Point-type detectors which detect smoke particles in the air rely on smoke particles to rise, which can take several minutes – especially when detectors are mounted on high warehouse ceilings. Meanwhile, Aviotec is a VdS-certified solution for visual fire monitoring, detecting smoke and flames at the source. Software inside each device analyses the video images for visual patterns associated with fires, such as specific motion and shape characteristics, or colour changes. When connected to IP-based video management solutions the video images provide additional information for alarm verification or localisation of the fire. To meet the manufacturer’s needs at its three factories, Bosch provided 34 Aviotec devices for video-based fire detection, alarm sounders, strobes and a third-party sprinkler system, all connected to a Bosch addressable Fire Panel 1200 Series. The result, according to Bosch, has three main benefits. First, it improves the safety of hundreds of employees at the factories. Second, it shortens alarm response times and minimises the risk of potential damage to equipment and product inventories. Finally, analysis of video images of a fire allows for root cause analysis after an incident. www.boschbuildingtechnologies.com About Mouka Mouka Ltd currently employs over 800 people across its various locations. Mouka’s management comprises men and women of proven integrity and with a track record of corporate success. Our values of Passion, Integrity and Excellence run through everything we do. Mouka people are committed, passionate and true to our cause of adding comfort to life.

CATI’s CQB Armor will do more than just stop bullets

CATI’s CQB Armor will do more than just stop bullets If you are law enforcement, security, or a first responder of any kind, you deserve two things: To be safe. And to be comfortable. CATI Armor has what you deserve, all packaged up and ready to ship. You’re out there pounding the streets day after day. Endless hours in the vehicle. Endless hours on your feet. Head constantly on a swivel, reporting and observing everything in sight, ready to respond at the hour of someone’s greatest need. You do this to keep America safe and secure. The last thing you need to worry about is whether that kiss and hug you gave your loved ones before you went to work will be the last. We get it. The job you do is selfless, and appreciation often goes unnoticed. You could find another job, but let’s face it – that wouldn’t be you. You could find some costly lightweight ceramic plates. But even if you did, they’re too bulky and you can’t wear them under your uniform. Steel armor is affordable, but you don’t need to come home with chronic back pain from having to wear heavy steel armor that simply doesn’t fit. These problems are real, and they require solutions!!! CATI Armor has the solution. It’s called the CQB (Comfort Quad Bend). This plate is the only steel armor that fits exactly to your body, helping to spread the weight comfortably across your chest. Because this technology is patent-pending, there is no other steel body armor on the market like this. It completely outshines all other steel armor of its kind in comfort. How did we accomplish this? Simple. But first…if you look at multi-curve lightweight ceramic plates, you’ll see that they’re formed to fit to your chest. No one ever thought that you could form steel like ceramic. So, the result has always been uncomfortable steel armor plates that are flat and cylinder shaped. Nothing that serves you as a human being with curves. The good news for you is…we figured it out! Just look at the picture above and you will see how our steel plate (on top) perfectly aligns with the lightweight ceramic plate (on bottom). We spent tens of thousands of dollars researching and designing the right die configuration and the proper pressing procedures to bend the steel plate in a way that makes it comfortable – while maintaining its integrity and capability. All you need to know – is the final result was steel armor that is more comfortable, capable, and concealable – making it more effective than any other steel armor on the market. You’ll be surprised to learn that when we introduced this product to the market, a lot of naysayers were trying to claim that by bending the steel, we were weakening it. They couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, HP White is about to implement a 3+ certification for all steel armor. Because we care about providing the best armor for the defenders of America, we already sent our Level 3+ CQB plates for a trial run for the future NIJ certification. And guess what? They shot our plates right at the bends and our plates easily stopped the rounds – instantly silencing all those naysayers. What this means is that you can do what you do best, while wearing affordable steel armor that is comfortable, capable, and concealable. Don’t hesitate on getting your plates ordered today. Right now we have no lead time, which means if you order today, your plates will ship within two days. In the past, we’ve had lead times ranging upwards of four weeks. So do not wait! You can be on your way to doing your job with comfort and peace of mind in less than two days from now. This is a small investment that will deliver tremendous benefits that will last a lifetime because we guarantee our plates for life! You owe it to yourself and your loved ones who depend on you to come home each night. Isn’t it time you treated yourself to comfortable body armor? Starting at only $99.99 for comfortable, capable, concealable 3+ armor. Order now at catiarmor.com.
