Innovative special-purpose vehicle solutions, electric mobility concepts and DVS vehicle scanner for commercial vehicles from a single source

Innovative special-purpose vehicle solutions, electric mobility concepts and DVS vehicle scanner for commercial vehicles from a single source At the 67th IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH presents a representative cross section through its broadly based range of truck chassis modifications which fulfill the highest quality standards and OEM specifications. The exhibition stand N 98 of the special-purpose vehicle manufacturer from Vilshofen on the Danube is located at the open-air area of the Hanover exhibition grounds in the 4th alley directly adjacent to the halls 14/15. The reception and catering area for guests and visitors was completely redesigned. There, talks with the experts of the Paul Group can be held in an attractive ambience and with numerous modern presentation options.
Directly opposite at the M 95 open-air area exhibition stand E-Vade GmbH, founded in 2017 and acting as the new electric mobility provider within the Paul Group, exhibits a comprehensive range of future-oriented electrified vehicle solutions for municipal applications or use by craftsmen and inner-city distribution and delivery transport services. Customer-specific requests regarding bodies, superstructures and conversions are carried out from a single source at Paul Nutzfahrzeuge. At Paul Nutzfahrzeuge’s N 98 exhibition stand a Mercedes-Benz Vario with an electric drive from the retrofit sector of E-Vade is on display. The new Digital Vehicle Scan from DVS GmbH & Co. KG, another path-breaking product from the Paul Group, is also displayed at the stand of Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH. It allows for the digital all-round inspection of the vehicle condition within 20 seconds. High manoeuvrability combined with high load capacity:
Paul Nutzfahrzeuge puts steered trailing axles in the focus
Increase of the load capacity combined with maximum manoeuvrability at the same time: in Hanover, exemplary vehicle combinations with steered trailing axles from the conversion sector of Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH will be on display. The vehicles come from different branches of business for whom Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH manufactures custom-made special configurations for highly specialized applications. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 2130 F 6×2 fire brigade aerial rescue vehicle is shown. Through the installation of a steered 5-tonne trailing axle Paul Nutzfahrzeuge has implemented a narrow and manoeuvrable chassis for applications in fire brigades, municipalities and distribution transport services. It offers an increased load capacity for bodies and superstructures. At the same time it is outstandingly manoeuvrable even on narrow streets and under cramped conditions due to its compact dimensions. The increase of the gross vehicle weight by five tonnes allows for the installation of heavy fire brigade special superstructures while at the same time the compact dimensions and the manoeuvrability of the Atego are maintained. The fire brigade specific equipment which consists of a turntable ladder with a working height of 32 metres and a tilting platform arm comes from the aerial appliance and rescue vehicle specialist Rosenbauer Karlsruhe GmbH & Co. KG. However, the three-axle Atego 2130 F 6×2 is also optimally suited for numerous other fields of application, for example in distribution transport, in municipal refuse disposal operations or in airport catering services. The second exhibition vehicle on display in Hanover is the new all-wheel drive 35-tonne short-nose truck Mercedes-Benz Zetros 3543 8×8. This four-axle vehicle is an exhibit which is extremely manoeuvrable through the steerability and the propulsion of the newly installed trailing axle. As regards handling it can be operated as easy as a three-axle truck. Through the increased load capacity and body mounting volume the Zetros 3543 8×8 offers sufficient space and load for carrying high-volume and heavy-weight bodies and superstructures. Furthermore the vehicle is perfectly adapted to heavy-duty applications under extreme topographic and climatic conditions. The four driven axles with differential locks, together with the two steered axles (front axle and trailing axle) increase both traction and manoeuvrability. Altogether they ensure safely getting through even under the most adverse operating conditions in desert areas. E-Vade GmbH: electric mobility is the sustainable path into the future E-Vade GmbH is the electric mobility provider within the Paul Group. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 E-Vade is present with an own exhibition area: at its open-air exhibition stand M 95 the company exhibits a Work L electric van from StreetScooter featuring a platform and a PC 900 Palfinger crane superstructure. The vehicle is above all predestined for municipal as well as commercial applications as a regionally operating workshop service vehicle or applications in sewer cleaning. The second exhibition vehicle presented by E-Vade is the Orion E electric bus from Mellor. Additionally, E-Vade presents the first prototype of an electrically driven municipal trike, provided as a mobile unit for municipal cleaning jobs in public parks, zero-emission zones and pedestrian areas. In the retrofit sector E-Vade gives older existing vehicles driven by diesel engines a new life with an environmentally friendly electric drive. The retrofitting as well as other individual body and conversion requests from customers are carried out from a single source at Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH. At Paul Nutzfahrzeuge’s exhibition stand a Mercedes-Benz Vario is on display with a weight-neutral 100 kW electric drive from the retrofit sector of E-Vade. All components of the electric drive are incorporated in the new axle which was developed by the BPW Bergische Achsen KG and is supplied by them. The removal of the diesel driveline, the complete overhaul of the vehicle and the installation of the electric axle is carried out by Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH on behalf of E-Vade. Digital Vehicle Scan: digital 360° inspection of the vehicle condition For the first time at the open-air area exhibition stand N 98 of Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH a full-scale model of the Digital Vehicle Scan (DVS) can be seen. The DVS system which was developed within the Paul Group facilitates and accelerates the fleet and vehicle management in big vehicle fleets as well as in rental pools and leasing fleets with frequently changing drivers. It is also perfectly suited for use in workshops and dealerships. The system for the digital check and quick recording of the vehicle condition

Over 2,700 attendees show they will “Never Forget” at sixth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Firefighters, their families, friends and community members from across the nation gathered at historic Lambeau Field on Saturday, September 22nd to participate in the sixth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Over 2,700 participants promised to “never forget” by honouring and remembering the 343 New York firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This year’s event raised more than $135,000 with all proceeds benefitting the NFFF and has again been recognised as one of the largest stair climbs in the nation. “Each year, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department forms a team and we encourage community members to participate alongside those in fire service,” said Lieutenant Shauna Walesh, life safety educator/PIO with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. “It’s an honour to symbolically finish the climb that many firefighters were unable to complete that day.” 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb participants had the opportunity to ascend the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center while wearing a badge with the name and photograph of one of the fallen firefighters. At the 78th floor, the highest floor reached on 9/11, each climber rang a fire bell in honour of the individual on their badge. “Since its inception, the Pierce Manufacturing team has been grateful for the opportunity to co-sponsor the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb along with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department,” said Jim Johnson, president of Pierce Manufacturing. “Not only is it an incredible day of remembrance and reflection, supporting the NFFF helps provide access to critical resources for survivors and co-workers of fallen firefighters.” Since instituting a partnership with the NFFF, Pierce has helped raised more than $600,000 to support the NFFF’s mission to provide support and resources for the families of fallen firefighters. The INTEGRITAS™ XPR-5582RX Intrinsically Safe Rechargeable Lantern is Nightstick’s most powerful handheld light. It generates an ultra-bright 1750 lumens from four separate LEDs housed in a 180-degree articulating head. The results are a tightly collimated beam that cuts through thick smoke and illuminates objects up to a third of a mile (552m) away! Holding down the wide, ergonomic top-mounted switch enables a battery-saving 600-lumen low mode, extending runtime to 11.5 hours when firefighters need a dependable light on longer calls. Designed and engineered as both a hand-held lantern and portable area light, the 5582 features a rear-mounted rubber base pad for upright use on any flat surface for portable, adjustable scene lighting on demand. Constructed of thick-walled glass-filled nylon and weighing only 2 lbs. 11oz., the 5582 is built to take abuse without dishing it out. The wide, flat body and handle design provide firefighters a stable platform while crawling under smoke or following a hose line. Two bright green rear-facing LEDs provide passive team member location for increased safety and awareness. “Firefighters need a hand-held light that’s powerful enough to cut through dark, smoke-filled scenes when visibility is almost zero, and robust enough to handle repeated abuse during fire ground tactics while exposed to severe heat,“ says Russell Hoppe, Marketing Director for Nightstick. “Our heroes shouldn’t have to worry about bringing enough light, taking off their gloves to press a button or running back to the truck for a separate area light. Checkmate Fire Solutions’ expansion continues with Harlow move

Checkmate Fire Solutions’ expansion continues with Harlow move Checkmate Fire Solutions, the UK’s biggest passive fire protection specialist, is relocating its south-east office to larger premises in Harlow as a result of ongoing growth. The Yorkshire-headquartered business has been running its operations across the whole of southern England from an office in Dunmore, Essex. However, with demand for Checkmate’s compliance and third-party accredited installation services increasing, it is now implementing an expansion plan for the region. The first part of the plan will see it move from Dunmore in September 2018 to a bigger site in Harlow, from where it will service its customers in London and the south-east. It will then open a new office base for its operations in the south-west of England the following month. Mark Williams, Checkmate’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Estate managers and business owners now take passive fire protection more seriously than ever before, so it is natural that so many of them have chosen to appoint Checkmate’s teams of third-party accredited specialists for inspections, installations and remediation work. “We’ve seen orders from facilities management contractors, NHS trusts, universities, housing associations and commercial property owners in the south grow sharply over the past couple of years, so we have had to expand our presence in the region. “This increased focus on fire safety among property managers and owners is not just good for Checkmate, it is also a real positive for the public. Improved passive fire protection makes workplaces and living spaces safer for everyone who works, sleeps in or visits those buildings, and that has to be a good thing.” Checkmate was established in Yorkshire as a supplier and installer of fire stopping in 1989 and has since grown into the UK’s largest passive fire protection specialist. From its headquarters in Elland and offices in Birmingham and the south of England, it now operates two divisions – compliance and solutions. The compliance division helps businesses and public sector organisations to improve the safety of their buildings and meet their legal requirements related to RRO and all other relevant regulations. Its services include passive fire specification consultancy, fire door inspections and fire compliance surveys, complete with associated certification and recertification services. Checkmate’s solutions division specialise in third-party accredited installation of fire stopping, fire doors and fire-resistant glazing in new builds, extensions, refurbishments and sites requiring remedial work. Its fully-trained teams have experience of undertaking complex projects in tall buildings (both residential and commercial), hospitals, universities and schools, industrial and office buildings.

Winners of inaugural Intersec Awards celebrated at glittering function in Dubai

Winners of inaugural Intersec Awards celebrated at glittering function in Dubai The winners of the inaugural Intersec Awards celebrated at a glittering function in Dubai, with the Dubai Frame and Sheikh Zayed Sports City Stadium among the victors at the Middle East’s only awards ceremony dedicated to excellence in security and fire protection.   The 12 winners across 11 categories were announced in front of 250 industry professionals at a gala dinner on the 20th September 2018 at Dubai’s Habtoor Palace, after a 12-strong judging panel deliberated on the merits of the 55 finalists, shortlisted from an initial field of 150 entries.   The Dubai Frame came out on top in the Large Scale Fire Project of the Year category, as did The Dubai Mall Fashion Avenue in the Security Retail Project of the Year. Engineering firm WSP was the consultant for both projects, making the Canadian headquartered company the only dual winner of the night.   Meanwhile, the Security Public Assembly Project of the Year category was too close to call, and ended up with a tie, as both the King Abdullah Economic City Hijaz Gate by SecuTronic and Sheikh Zayed Sports City Stadium by MVP Tech shared the honours.   The 1st Intersec Awards are organised by Messe Frankfurt Middle East, which also organises Intersec, the world’s largest security, safety, and fire protection trade fair which takes place every year, and returns for its 21st edition in January 2019 in Dubai.   Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East, delivered the opening welcome address: “The Intersec Awards recognise the most outstanding projects and products that are the benchmark of the Middle East commercial security and fire safety industries.   “The hugely positive response to the inaugural edition vindicates our decision to launch the region’s only awards ceremony of its kind, and the winners represent the embodiment of the vision, creativity, ingenuity, and sustainability that is the whole spirit of tonight’s celebration.   “This is the one time of the year where industry stakeholders can gather and recognise each other’s achievements in keeping private and public spaces safe and secure, from manufacturers, authorities, consultants, and contractors, to the end-users and clients,” Pauwels said.   The Dubai Frame, a new architectural landmark on the Emirate’s already remarkable skyline, is approximately 150 metres high, resembling a giant picture frame.  Unlike many Dubai buildings which are intended for residential or commercial use, the Dubai Frame, which opened in January 2018, is a bespoke custom structure serving as an observation deck providing 360 degree views over the city’s old and new parts.   WSP provided fire and life safety consultancy services during the design and handover period, playing a pivotal role during discussions with the Dubai Civil Defence showing how the unique and bespoke structure meets the fire and life safety goals of the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.   Alexander Castellanos, a WSP Consultant who worked on the project, said ensuring that sufficient exit capacity was designed for the functional intent of the Dubai Frame was one of the project’s biggest challenges: “The main goal for fire safety is to ultimately preserve life of occupants and allow them to evacuate a building or structure in the event of a fire.   “Drawing from our experience in projects where occupants are based on operational capabilities of spaces, we provided guidance and coordination with the Dubai Civil Defence so that the space would be managed and the number of occupants would be limited based on the functionality of the space.   “This approach, supplemented with the implementation of active and passive fire protection systems, and management protocols, allowed the development of an evacuation strategy which met the goal of ensuring the safe evacuation of occupants in the event of a fire,” said Castellanos.   Elsewhere, the Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Centre’s (ADMCC) Safe City Falcon Eye Project by FLIR Systems was adjudged as the Security Infrastructure Project of the Year at the Intersec 2018 Awards.   The ADMCC was formed with a vision to make Abu Dhabi the world’s safest city, implementing a leading solution for public safety bringing together a security infrastructure network comprising license plate recognition, facial recognition, video analytics and video management from over 45,000 sensors spread across the Emirate under a single unified platform, ensuring the safety of its residents around the clock.   The Falcon Eye project by American manufacturer FLIR Systems was designed in accordance with the directives of the Safe City initiative of the Abu Dhabi government.  The project is planned to be spread over multiple phases, with the scope for the initial phase to protect the prime city locations and critical infrastructure.   This involved deploying the network, outdoor and data centre infrastructure for over 600 license plate cameras, over 7,000 surveillance cameras with around 100 cameras enabled for real-time video analytics and a further 100 facial recognition cameras.   The second phase of the project is focused on expanding the geographical coverage to the rest of Abu Dhabi, with state-of-the-art modular data centre and system architecture, to support an expansion of the overall sensors to 2,000 license plate cameras, 20,000 surveillance cameras with at least 2,000 video analytics enabled cameras and a further increase in facial recognition capabilities.   Harry Jackman of FLIR Systems, said: “The security industry has gained and continues to benefit from the Falcon Eye project in many aspects. The project serves as a reference case across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region and around the world, due to its scale, breadth, unique combination of technologies and applications.   “Furthermore, multiple individuals that continue to be involved in the Falcon Eye project, including designers, architects, consultants, IT and engineering experts, product and project managers, have gained unique experience and expertise allowing them to lead the industry utilising the knowledge and tools they gained throughout the project.   “Given the size, scale, breadth of technologies, range of applications, innovation, deployment excellence and all the information provided above, we believe

Hochiki Europe protects historic war records in Lincoln

Hochiki Europe protects historic war records in Lincoln  Working closely with Freedom Fire and Security Maintenance, leading manufacturer of life safety systems, Hochiki Europe, has provided a range of solutions to The International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) in Lincoln. The memorial is home to one of the most comprehensive records of the Bomber Command unit in the world. Lincolnshire is a county that contributed heavily to the United Kingdom’s efforts in World War II. It is for this reason that the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Tony Worth CVO, wanted to create a facility that would recognise and commemorate those who served in the Bomber Command Unit. As part of the estimated £16million building project, local providers of fire and security systems, Freedom, were brought on board to specify and install a fire alarm system that would offer unparalleled performance without disrupting the aesthetics of the space. Working closely with Hochiki Europe, Freedom selected a range of products from the company’s ESP range. The ESP collection of intelligent addressable fire detection and alarm equipment offers high performance and reliability, combined with an enhanced open protocol. Recognising that many specifiers need to consider the aesthetics of life safety solutions as well as performance when selecting products, Hochiki Europe’s ESP range features ivory, black and white sensors. Freedom opted to use black sensors to minimise their visual presence throughout the centre. It was for this same reason that the sensors had to be carefully positioned throughout the building. Having carried out multiple site surveys, Freedom fit the sensors so that both design and safety regulations were successfully met. In total, 58 optical smoke sensors were installed throughout the site, along with three heat sensors, 23 remote LED indicators and 14 manual call points. All devices are controlled via two intelligent fire panels provided by Kentec Electronics, part of the Hochiki group of companies. Speaking about the project, James Slater, manager at Freedom Fire and Security, commented: “These innovative solutions from Hochiki Europe have allowed us to offer the centre reliable and flexible solutions that protect these important records from behind the scenes. “The fact that the ESP range features an open protocol is an added bonus for us, as it gives us even more flexibility on system design and installation.” Neil Eves, Systems Sales Manager at Hochiki Europe, noted: “Due to high occupancy levels and complex layouts, museums and other large facilities, such as the International Bomber Command Centre, are particularly challenging environments when it comes to life safety. Our ESP range ensures all spaces can be protected to regulations efficiently, ensuring the safety of visitors and employees.” “In buildings where aesthetics and design are also important, it’s vital to consider equipment which doesn’t compromise on the overall look and feel of the space. Using black sensors from our ESP range was key to achieving this in the new Lincoln memorial.” The International Bomber Command Centre opened in January 2018. A third of Brits can’t recognise the signs of an unsafe gas appliance

A third of Brits can’t recognise the signs of an unsafe gas appliance A third of UK adults (33%) don’t know the signs of an unsafe gas appliance, according to Gas Safe Register’s research. This Gas Safety Week (17-23 September) Gas Safe Register will be raising awareness about the dangers of unsafe gas appliances, with the support of the industry. The potential warning signs that could indicate a gas appliance is unsafe were recognised by some people as; a lazy yellow flame (33%), the pilot light keeps going out (32%), black marks or stains on or around the appliances (29%) and increased condensation inside windows (12%). One in six adults (17%) also admitted that they take no steps at all to ensure their home’s gas appliances are safe. Nearly half (47%) said they have their gas appliances checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer, two in five (38%) have an audible carbon monoxide alarm and one in three (29%) know to check that their gas engineer is on the Gas Safe Register. The latest available statistics by awareness campaign group Project SHOUT say poisoning by carbon monoxide, which is odourless and colourless, causes around 50 deaths each year in the UK. Industry body Gas Safe Register warns against checking or working on gas appliances yourself or using an illegal gas fitter. Currently only a fifth of people check an engineer’s ID card on arrival at their home. To mark the eighth annual Gas Safety Week, Gas Safe Register has created a video to demonstrate how carbon monoxide can be missed from the home safety checks that people do to keep themselves and their family safe.     Jonathan Samuel, chief executive of Gas Safe Register said: “Carbon monoxide poisoning is known as the silent killer because you can’t see it, taste it or smell it. Our research shows that lots of people aren’t aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning or the potential warning signs that your gas appliance isn’t working safely. This Gas Safety Week we’re helping people find out more about how to keep their homes gas safe and reminding everyone to not cut corners when it comes to getting their gas appliances checked on an annual basis.” Gas Safe Register recommends that people get their gas appliances checked on an annual basis to ensure gas appliances are working safely and efficiently. However nearly a quarter (24%) of the 2,000 UK adults polled don’t follow this guidance and could be using illegal gas fitters as one in 10 (11%) said they don’t get their gas appliances checked, 8% don’t know if their engineer is Gas Safe registered (8%) and 5% try to maintain their gas appliances themselves. Gas Safe Register recommends six simple steps to keep our families safe and warm in our homes: Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer. Double check both sides of your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card to know that they’re registered and qualified to work on your gas appliances. Have all gas appliances safety checked every year. Familiarise yourself with the six signs of carbon monoxide poisoning; headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness. Check appliances for warning signs that they are not working properly, e.g. black marks or stains on or around the appliance, lazy yellow flames instead of crisp blue ones and condensation around the room. Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm for a second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning.   ADDITIONAL INFORMATION                 Show your support for Gas Safety Week 2018: Follow @GasSafetyWeek and #GSW18 Pledge your support HEREand you will receive a toolkit of free material to help you promote gas safety.
