Scania and their latest innovations at INTERSCHUTZ

As Scania returns to the first Interschutz held since 2015, it is in some respects making its debut all over again at the fair, the world’s leading trade event for the fire and rescue services, civil protection, safety and security. For Scania will be showing a range of vehicles and solutions that it’s developed in the intervening years, which are already well proven and appreciated by many fire brigades. Four fire trucks are on display at the Scania stand They are joined by two engines from Scania Power Solutions Scania is also showing its focus on safety with options such as the rollover side curtain airbags for all four doors on the Scania CrewCab. “Since the last time Interschutz took place, we have introduced a completely new range of solutions based on our modular system,” says Louise Johansson, Product Manager, Critical Community Services at Scania Trucks. “Scania’s range and our capabilities for responding with solutions for specific customer needs have increased even further. The jewel in the crown is our modular CrewCab in all its variants.” Scania’s CrewCab is the only vehicle in the industry that can be equipped with the unique – and award-winning – rollover side curtain airbag system. With that introduction, Scania took an important step towards mitigating one of the most critical consequences of rollover accidents, where drivers or passengers are injured or even fatally crushed by their own vehicle. This clever solution deploys and protects people in the cab wearing seatbelts, if the truck happens to roll over. “We see a growing demand for updated ergonomics, improved safety and solutions that are better adopted for operating in busy, urban environments like big cities,” says Johansson. “Firefighters need trucks that are easy to manoeuvre, which requires the driver to have good visibility and an agile vehicle as his or her work tool.” Scania’s CrewCab has served as the foundation for thousands of firefighting trucks around the globe. It is available in four different versions (long cab/short cab, normal roof/high roof), and what they all have in common are their quality, attention to detail and the level of safety they offer for the staff, especially on the way to the next assignment. Scania will showcase a number of trucks at its stand, among them a BEV chassis with an L cab and a Scania City Door. Battery Electric Vehicles are attracting more and more attention for firefighting purposes. An obvious upside is their ability to do the job at the location without creating noise or emissions. And with an L cab and the inward-swinging City Door, it is the perfect tool for operating and manoeuvring in dense, urban environments where good eyesight and easy boarding are appreciated. The actual chassis has a 6×2*4 axle configuration (the third axle is an electrically steered tag axle), and a wheel base of 4,250 mm. It allows for GTWs of up to 28 tonnes. With nine batteries, it has 300 kWh of installed energy and can offer a range of up to 250 km from the 230 kW electric machine. If you are not able to attend Interschutz, a sneak peek at some of the exciting new products for 2022 can be found below! TSM 2000: The TSM is the most compact, durable and efficient 2000 GPM pump on the market. Designed by experts in fluid dynamics, every part on the pump is matched to be long-lasting in rough conditions. It features the Darley MagnaTrans transmission, which has a silicon carbide mechanical seal and a gearbox that will handle 19,230 ft lbs of torque. Its gears are helically cut and the impeller is vacuum-cast to eliminate porosity and dynamically balanced to ensure smooth and quiet operation. ZSM: Often used in industrial and ARFF operations, the ZSM is the highest flowing midship pump available on the market in a very compact package. It has ratings from 2500 to 3000 GPM (3500 GPM is available for fireboats) and features the Darley MegaTrans, which like the MagnaTrans has silicon carbide mechanical seals and parts machined for long life and serviceability. FLAIM Trainer: The FLAIM Trainer is on the cutting edge of firefighter instruction. By combining virtual reality, multi-sensory physical interfaces, real fire science, biometric performance, real-time data capture and analysis and a safe and controlled environment, firefighters have the opportunity to train on real fire behaviour without the danger, cost and carcinogen exposure of a live fire event. The trainer can choose from a library of possible scenarios and the FLAIM suit and mask simulate the heat, sound and sight of the fire. Biometric data as well as response is measured, so a firefighter can receive individual feedback immediately from their trainer. HazSim Pro 2.0: The HazSim Pro is currently used to train thousands of personnel in fire, military, oil and gas and power facilities across North America.  The system is used for basic hazwoper, hazmat tech/spec, confined space and any training for those who encounter dangerous atmospheres. HazSim Pro 2.0 is able to simulate 4, 5, 6 gas metres as well as radiation and WMD.   Bridgehill Car Fire Blanket Pro-X: Bridgehill car fire blanket provides the quickest and most effective way to extinguish a car fire by removing oxygen supply. Toxic gases and smoke are stifled immediately in fossil fuel cars. The same immediate result is achieved in electric cars whose batteries have not been affected by the fire. The fire and smoke are isolated within seconds of spreading the blanket over the car. New CommandX products at INTERSCHUTZ

Discover the presentation of our new products from the CommandX family at the Smart Public Safety Hub at INTERSCHUTZ. Just in time for this year‘s INTERSCHUTZ, Eurocommand GmbH is entering the 5th generation with its CommandX operational support software. CommandX CX5 is the innovative hybrid cross-platform, with which the functionalities known on the market are extended by mobile applications with live data transfer, dashboards, watch display and the integration of drone data. With the introduction of this new platform, it is now possible to use CommandX even more fail-safe and independent of the operating system. The application is called up via a web browser, which accesses a local database. In this way, Eurocommand remains true to its long-standing Gold Standard and at the same time offers its customers significantly improved availability and independence. Other innovative and modern applications were also developed. The new CIMgate.CONNECT is clearly worth mentioning here. CIMgate.CONNECT is the heart of the CommandX platform and supports over 80 agents and connectors to third-party systems, making it easy to use existing standard interfaces or implement new ones. CIMgate.CONNECT includes the standard BOS API according to DIN SPEC 91287, with data exchange taking place event-based and in real time. By using HASH codes, the data exchange in CIMgate.CONNECT is minimised as much as possible. For this purpose, incoming and outgoing data is validated and unchanged information is automatically filtered and not transmitted. Two new applications developed by Eurocommand were also completed for the mobile applications. The first is the new CIMgate.LIVE. With this, Eurocommand offers a powerful application for connecting video and live data infrastructures to the CommandX platform. Existing standard interfaces can be easily used or newly realised via different agents. Data exchange is based on gRPC remote procedure calls via secure data connections. CIMgate.LIVE is used to transmit video streams and live data directly to the CommandX operational support software, where these data are processed into real situation information. RTMP, RTSP, HTML and WebRTC are supported as streaming protocols. Furthermore, it is about CommandX.MOBILE, a mobile application as a perfect add-on to the CommandX operational support software. The mobile application serves not only as an operations manager dashboard, but also as a mobile reporting system and for organisational purposes. CommandX.MOBILE is assigned to fixed users or units on end devices and thus enables rapid access to operations with modules such as dashboard, reporting, organisational structure or situation map. With CommandX.MOBILE, it is possible to communicate quickly and securely within the framework of the 24h Messenger, to send FMS status messages or to view LIVE data in the tactical map using GPS tracking. DRZ: Supporting emergency services

Users, scientists and manufacturers under one roof – that is the German Rescue Robotics Centre (DRZ) in Dortmund. At INTERSCHUTZ 2022, the DRZ will give an insight into its work with demonstrations in front of a large audience for the first time. For example, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day at the joint stand with the Dortmund Fire Brigade (Hall 17/D06), an incident involving chemical, biological or radiological/nuclear hazardous substances will be demonstrated, with the fire brigade initiating the first measures with the help of robotic systems. “The initial reconnaissance is carried out by a drone,” explains DRZ CEO Robert Grafe. “Then our ground robot, which bears the simple name ‘D2’, is sent to the scene. The location, which may be difficult to access in an emergency, is simulated by an obstacle course.” After that, it is up to “D2” to close a valve from which the hazardous substance is leaking. During the demonstration, spectators will find it particularly interesting to take a look inside the robotics command vehicle (RobLW), which is unique in Germany and was constructed specially for the DRZ. This is where the (image) data is transmitted and analysed. The RobLW has already proven its worth several times in real operations – among others, it was deployed in the flood disaster area in North Rhine-Westphalia in summer 2021 and at a major fire of a residential complex in Essen in April 2022. The simple name D2 (Demonstrator 2) is a “working title”. For some time now, the DRZ has been thinking about finding a name. In doing so, the DRZ hopes for the support of the Interschutz guests. Visitors can create suitable names for the “Red Helper” every day and “pin” them on the social media wall at the trade fair stand. All ideas will be collected and evaluated by the end of the week. A jury will then make the final decision on the name patron. The public christening with the new name will take place on Saturday, 25.06.2022 between 1 and 2 pm. At the joint stand of the DRZ and the Dortmund Fire Brigade, information will also be provided about the DRZ Living Lab in Dortmund, a 1,300 square metre test hall. It is the heart of the DRZ and was only officially opened last year. Here, the 13 partners of the project meet to test the developed innovative technologies to optimise rescue operations. Each partner contributes its competencies and expertise – e.g. networked situational awareness, digital imaging processes, semi-autonomous assistance functions and human-robot teamwork support. “Our goal is to be able to simulate various conceivable scenarios in the DRZ Living Lab,” Robert Grafe continues. In daily lecture slots between 1 and 2 p.m., the DRZ partners will also report on their work and cooperation in the project. Teledyne FLIR and GFD, two of the world’s innovators in fire/gas detection and monitoring technologies will share a booth at Interschutz 2022, providing a convenient one-stop-shop for those seeking advanced solutions that protect citizens, buildings and firefighters. Teledyne FLIR, a specialist in thermal imaging cameras and sensors, and Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection, will be present in hall 27, booth H18 at the exhibition, which takes place in Hanover, Germany on 20-25 June. As the world’s leading trade fair for the fire and rescue industries, both Teledyne FLIR and Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection will showcase a number of proven products that improve fire/gas identification and monitoring. Two brand new innovations will also be on the booth, bringing even more capabilities to the firefighting arena. Among the class-leading products on display from Teledyne FLIR will be its K-series cameras, developed specifically to meet the demanding requirements of firefighting. The full range will be on the booth, starting with the K1 situational awareness camera that serves as an extra set of eyes on the fire scene, allowing commanders, officers and inspectors to complete a rapid yet thorough 360° assessment in total darkness and through smoke. Also on display will be the K2 compact thermal imaging camera (TIC) featuring Teledyne FLIR’s patented Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX) technology, which produces richly-detailed thermal images by bringing together the visual and thermal spectrum.  Further TICs sure to attract the attention of Interschutz visitors will include the high-performance K33, K45, K53 and K55, with advanced features and functions to suit different requirements. The K65 NFPA-compliant will also be in the spotlight, as will the C5 compact thermal camera, which is ideal for identifying potential fire hazards such as hot fuses. In addition, booth visitors will see examples of Teledyne FLIR’s in-truck thermal camera chargers, along with a small representation of PVS series multi-purpose night vision monoculars, ITS thermal imaging cameras for traffic monitoring applications, and early fire detection solutions. Regarding the latter, Teledyne FLIR integration partner, MoviTHERM, has developed a thermal monitoring system that can detect rising temperatures before fire has the chance to spread.  Moving to sister company Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection, two new portable solutions will take centre stage at Interschutz. First up is the new Gas Laser, a device that adds remote natural gas detection capabilities to firefighting activities, enhancing safety and improving detection for fire services and first responders. Users can perform a quick scan of common venting points from distances of up to 30m.  Another new product is GT Fire, which increases gas detection capabilities as firefighters can isolate leaks with greater accuracy while they wait for the utility company to arrive. Dräger showcases firefighting equipment

From June 20 to 25, Dräger will present its new portfolio of products and digital solutions for firefighters and incident commanders at INTERSCHUTZ 2022 in Hanover. “We want to show what modern firefighting equipment of the future looks like. Our new products place the focus firmly on safety, comfort, and connectivity so as to protect and relieve the pressure on incident commanders at all times. The many new possibilities for connectivity in particular give incident commanders a better overview and the reliability of knowing how their teammates and colleagues are at all times,” says Leif Brünslow, booth manager and head of marketing for fire services and authorities at Dräger. New products create a connected system The new system from Dräger includes a self-contained breathing apparatus, a NANO compressed air cylinder, a helmet for fire and rescue services, two thermal imaging cameras, and a digital respiratory protection monitoring solution for added safety during rescue missions. – The PSS AirBoss self-contained breathing apparatus is designed with ergonomics in mind and is extremely lightweight, thanks to modern materials and the new NANO compressed air cylinder. Three-level height adjustment and a pivoting and sliding waist belt ensure greater freedom of movement. Moreover, when connected and used with FireGround, it increases safety at the incident scene. – FireGround is an ultra-modern respiratory protection monitoring system that is connected to the self-contained breathing apparatus or closed-circuit breathing apparatus. It automatically provides live status information about the device wearers to respiratory protection monitors and incident commanders. The information is clearly displayed in a dedicated cloud service and can be accessed via an app as an add-on. – Weighing just 1.25 kilograms, the HPS SafeGuard is an extremely lightweight multipurpose helmet for fire and rescue services. Its design combines optimal protection with the highest levels of wearing comfort and has a sporty look. – The new UCF FireCore will be unveiled at INTERSCHUTZ and is expected to be available in the beginning of 2023. The thermal imaging camera is fixed to the helmet and allows the SCBA wearer to see the image in the mask. Leaving firefighters both hands free, helping them concentrate on their job. The thermal image is always available and provides fast and continuous orientation under zero visibility conditions. – Dräger will present the BG ProAir, a new generation of positive pressure closed-circuit breathing apparatus, specially designed for longer rescue missions. Fotokite’s debut at Interschutz 2022

A ruggedised tablet runs the Fotokite Live Application and displays the thermal and RGB video streams simultaneously, giving first responder teams actionable information throughout their mission. Fotokite Sigma systems save team resources by launching, flying, and landing with the single push of a button. Able to achieve true autonomous flight with unlimited flight-time, the Fotokite Sigma requires no active piloting and therefore allows teams to be easily trained and, once in the field, to focus on their mission while providing live thermal and low-light imaging from the height of up to 45 metres (150 feet). Whether first on-scene or arriving mid-response, simple usability and quick set-up time allows first responders to access secure and reliable aerial overviews within seconds to help them understand their incident scenes. Fotokite Sigma systems will also be showcased on partner and customer booths such as MSA The Safety Company (H14/15 Booth H20), Alpha Robotics (H27), Brandschutztechnik Schlichtiger GmbH (VG D88/D89), Fire International Disaster Response Germany (H27 Booth A18) and many more.
