Streamlight launches high-lumen and multi-fuel models

Streamlight introduced high-lumen, multi-fuel versions of its TLR-8 and TLR-8 sub lines of laser-equipped weapon-mounted lights, featuring up to 1,000 lumens of brightness and a longer-reaching beam to maximize visibility and targeting capability. All the new models give users the choice of using either a cost-saving SL-B9 USB-C rechargeable battery pack or a CR123A lithium battery, depending on availability or user preference. They also offer convenient, front-loading battery replacement without having to remove the light from the firearm. The new lights include the TLR-8 HL-X with red laser and the TLR-8 HL-X G with green laser for full-size and compact railed handguns, and the TLR-8 HL-X sub with red laser and the TLR-8 HL-X G sub with green laser, available to fit select GLOCK, SIG SAUER, Springfield Armory, and many 1913 short railed subcompact handguns. All models offer customizable rear paddle switches to match users’ shooting styles. “Law enforcement, military, tactical, and other users will appreciate these newest additions to the growing family of TLR rail-mounted lights that are rechargeable, but also provide the option of using disposable batteries,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah. “Because the lights are high-lumen, they produce sweeping bright light, while also delivering an intense down-range beam, which is ideal for room clearing, search operations, or other pursuits under low-light conditions. And users have their choice of red aiming laser models or green laser versions for improved focus during daylight.” The TLR-8 HL-X and TLR-8 HL-X G feature a high-power LED and either a 640-660nm red or 510-530nm green laser. They deliver 1,000 lumens, 22,000 candela, a beam distance of 297 meters, and a run time of 30 minutes (default) or 500 lumens, 11,000 candela, a beam distance of 210 metres, and a run time of 1 hour (programmable) when using an SL-B9 battery pack. With a CR123A battery inserted, the lights provide 500 lumens,11,000 candela, a beam distance of 210 metres, and a run time of 1.5 continuous hours. The TLR-8 HL-X sub and the TLR-8 HL-X G sub also feature a high-power LED, as well as either a 640-660nm red or 510-530nm green laser. They are each available in four different models to fit GLOCK 43X MOS/48 MOS and GLOCK 43X/48 Rail subcompact handguns; the SIG SAUER P365 and P365 XL; the Springfield Armory Hellcat; and select 1913 short railed subcompact handguns including the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0, Beretta Px4 Storm, Springfield Armory XD-E™, XD-S and Hellca Pro, Heckler & Koch® HK45 and SIG SAUER P365 XMACRO. They provide 1,000 lumens, 10,000 candela, a beam distance of 200 metres, and a run time of 30 minutes (default) or 500 lumens, 5,000 candela, a beam distance of 141 metres, and a run time of 1 hour (programmable) when using an SL-B9 battery pack. Using a CR123A battery, they deliver 500 lumens, 5,000 candela, a beam distance of 141 metres, and a run time of 1.5 continuous hours. All new TLR-8 HL-X and TLR-8 HL-X sub models come with Streamlight’s SL-B9 protected lithium-ion 850mAh battery pack that is rechargeable up to 500 cycles and charges via a USB-C port on the battery or optional bank charger. Securely fitting to a broad range of weapons (using the provided key kit), the new lights feature a one-handed, snap on and tighten interface that keeps hands away from gun muzzles when attaching or detaching them. The lights also include a “safe-off” feature, locking them so they cannot be turned on accidentally. The TLR-8 HL-X models each weigh 89 grams with the SL-B9 and 86.1 grams with a disposable battery. They measure 7.3cm in length. The TLR-8 HL-X sub models weigh 81.3 grams with an SL-B9 and 78.5 grams with a lithium battery; they are 6.3cm long. The new lights are constructed with impact-resistant 6000 Series machined aircraft aluminum with an anodized finish and feature an IPX4-rated design for water-resistant operation. Reliable refrigerant gas detection ensures safety and sustainability, preventing leaks that harm workers and the environment while ensuring regulatory compliance in industrial settings  Refrigerant gases are widely used in industrial refrigeration, HVAC and air conditioning systems. However, accidental leaks can pose a risk to safety and the environment. Some of these gases, such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), contribute to the greenhouse effect and ozone layer depletion, while others, such as ammonia (NH₃) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), can be hazardous to human health in high concentrations.  In the industrial sector, early detection of these leaks is essential to prevent accidents, ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reduce operational costs related to refrigerant leakage. Production plants, storage facilities and large cold chains must adopt reliable solutions for continuous gas monitoring, protecting both workers and the environment.  Refrigerant gas detection technologies  There are different technologies for refrigerant gas detection, each suited to specific types of gas and environments of use:  Infrared (IR) sensors: Ideal for detecting gases such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), these sensors measure the absorption of infrared light by the target gas. They offer high accuracy, long life and are particularly effective in complex industrial environments.  Electrochemical sensors: Used primarily for gases such as ammonia (NH₃), these sensors utilise chemical reactions to detect the presence of the gas with high sensitivity and accuracy, making them ideal for industrial and environmental safety applications.  The choice of the most suitable technology depends on the type of refrigerant, the environment of use and regulatory requirements. Britannia Fire factory refurbishment helps meet growing demand

Britannia Fire has invested more than £1m in the refurbishment of its factory in Norfolk, UK.  The investment comes in direct response to growing demand for its groundbreaking P50 range of fire extinguishers which are both cost-effective and environmentally-friendly. The company has produced fire extinguishers from its factory in Ashwellthorpe near Norwich for more than 50 years, with its steel models discontinued last year in favour of the innovative P50. The refurbishment has involved a total reconfiguration of the factory layout and the installation of new machinery to increase P50 production and significantly reduce lead times. Traditional, steel fire extinguishers are prone to corrosion and must be serviced annually to ensure they remain fit for purpose.  In contrast, the P50 composite extinguishers last 20 years and only need professional servicing every decade, saving customers time and money. Free from PFAS chemicals and easily recyclable, they are better for the environment.  P50s are also multi-purpose and can be used on Class A, B and electrical fires.  This reduces the number of extinguishers needed in each location and eliminates confusion during emergencies. New machinery at the factory includes a larger winding machine, which is used to attach super-strength aramid fibre to the P50 cylinders. This will increase P50 production by 150%, while the reorganisation of the space will help to streamline processes.  An obsolete oven and shot blaster have been removed to make way for a new dispatch bay; all lighting, electrics and work stations have been upgraded; and a brand-new extension building provides much needed office space and a canteen area for staff. Andy Spence, Joint Managing Director of Britannia Fire, comments: “It’s not surprising that composite fire extinguishers like the P50 are in demand, as they present a win-win for customers looking to save costs and reduce their environmental impact. By the end of last year, we were manufacturing around the clock to keep up with orders, with customers waiting around 12 weeks for delivery.  With the new machinery and refurbished factory, we’re more than doubling our output. Lead times are reducing already, and we’ll soon be able to bring this down to just three or four weeks.” He continues: “The fit-out was completed swiftly, within a matter of weeks, and the transition was expertly handled by our team who navigated any potential disruption to ensure production continued throughout. We now have a modern, organised, light and spacious working environment which better suits our current needs and our plans for future growth.” Britannia Fire’s continued success has led to the creation of five new jobs at the company so far this year.  Those previously working on the ceased metal fire extinguisher lines received training and have been redeployed to new positions. Further expansion plans include creating an additional storage facility for raw materials, as well as a two-storey office building to provide further office space and meeting rooms. IFSM-Funded Research Explores the Impact of Coatings on Wood Combustion

The Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) is pleased to share the results of a research project funded through its scholarship programme, titled Experimental Study of Effect of Coatings on Combustion Characteristics of Wood. This project was undertaken by Enya Zhang, a student at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), and has now been completed. The full research findings are available on the IFSM website. Research Overview The project originated as an Undergraduate Research Internship at UCLan in 2023 and was expanded with IFSM’s support in 2024. The study aimed to examine how wood preservatives impact the burning behaviour of Swedish pine decking through experimental testing. A Cone Calorimeter and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) were used to assess the effects of different coatings. The findings suggest that applying preservatives after a fire-retardant coating can reduce fire performance. The degree of impact depends on the composition and concentration of the preservatives. The results of this research were shared at the Fire Safety Façade and ICFSER conferences, where they contributed to broader discussions on fire behaviour and safety strategies. Whilst this research was an academic study, the results do have practical implications. As Enya states, “Boron based fire retardant can effectively reduce the peak and total heat release rate and postpone the time of ignition. However, it increases the CO production rate which may pose risks to occupants during evacuation.” Reflections from the Researcher Reflecting on her experience, Enya Zhang shared: “I was both surprised and excited to be selected for this opportunity. This was my first research project and my first experience receiving research funding. Through this project, I gained valuable insight into the world of academia—understanding the research process, building knowledge, and connecting with experts in the field. Presenting my work at conferences was an incredible experience. It allowed me to share my findings, receive constructive feedback, and learn from others in the fire safety community. This experience not only strengthened my research skills but also deepened my passion for fire safety. Since completing my bachelor’s degree in 2024, I have continued my academic journey with a research-based master’s degree in wildfire simulation, with aspirations to pursue a PhD in the future. Having the support of IFSM has been an honour—their funding has played a crucial role in shaping my early career, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity.” Advancing Fire Safety Knowledge By supporting this research project, the IFSM aimed to contribute to the advancement of fire safety knowledge. It hopes the findings from Enya Zhang’s study will be of interest to fire engineers and safety professionals, providing valuable insights into the interaction between fire retardants and wood treatments. Charterhouse announces partnership with ESTYA

Austria Logistics hub opened by Magirus

Magirus announced the grand opening of its new logistics hub at Panattoni Park Graz Süd in Leibnitz. The modern site, with a total area of around 2,500 m², will play a key role in optimising logistics and expanding the production capacities of the Austrian Magirus Lohr plant in Premstätten. Thomas Hilse, CEO of Magirus, emphasises: “The opening of this logistics hub marks a decisive step in the strategic development of Magirus in Austria and beyond. The location not only strengthens our supply chains but also enables us to grow sustainably and increase our efficiency. The use of CO2-neutral shuttle transport also emphasises our commitment to the environment and sustainable corporate management.” Marc Kuntz, Director of Sales and Customer Service, adds: “With the new logistics infrastructure, we are optimising our warehousing and expanding our production capacities. LogiMAT 2025: WAGNER sets new standards in fire protection

At the LogiMAT in Stuttgart from 11th to 13th March, WAGNER will be presenting innovative fire protection technologies and individual solutions for deep-freeze warehouses, high-bay warehouses and compact storage systems in Hall 7, Stand 7C13. A key highlight is the latest advancements in the field of active fire protection with OxyReduct®. Active fire prevention is based on the principle of oxygen reduction: the OxyReduct® system generates nitrogen directly from the ambient air and directs it into the area to be protected. This reduces the oxygen concentration to below the ignition threshold of the materials present. A protective atmosphere is created in which fires cannot even start under defined conditions. Nitrogen generation and self-sufficient energy supply in one system For the first time at LogiMAT, WAGNER will unveil the new OxyReduct® F-Line nitrogen generator, which combines the advantages of an economical and sustainable fire protection solution with carbon-neutral and self-sufficient energy generation. This added value is made possible by innovative fuel cell technology. The hydrogen-based fuel cell developed by HY.AIR Energy GmbH produces nitrogen-rich exhaust air. This is directed into the area to be protected to create an oxygen-reduced atmosphere for active fire prevention. At the same time, the cell provides electricity and heat for the operation of other equipment and systems. Due to the high efficiency of the fuel cell, only small amounts of hydrogen are needed to generate the nitrogen required for fire prevention. For the user, this means maximum fire safety along with carbon neutrality. In combination with other OxyReduct® nitrogen generators, WAGNER also offers a flexibly adaptable, hybrid fire protection system that provides optimum protection even for very large protected areas in the warehouse and logistics sector, for example in deep-freeze and high-bay warehouses. OxyReduct® receives FM Approval WAGNER has recently received approval for its proven OxyReduct® oxygen reduction system from the renowned testing and certification institute FM Approvals. In addition to the existing approvals from VdS, VB-Cert and Pavus, the certificate represents another important recognition. Dr. Xiangyang Zhou (FM) joins IWMA Scientific Council

Since Dr. Hong-Zeng Yu retired two years ago, FM had no representative on the IWMA Scientific Council. In February 2025, Dr. Xiangyang Zhou applied for a seat on the council and was accepted. Dr. Xiangyang Zhou is senior lead research scientist and has extensive knowledge and many years of experience in sprinkler and water mist fire protection research and testing. About his acceptance he says: “I am very grateful and happy to be approved as a member of the IWMA Scientific Council. I have worked at FM for years on the research of water mist fire protection and am currently working on a project to develop its application. I will be very happy to work with the Scientific Council and contribute my knowledge to advance the development of water mist fire protection worldwide.” The IWMA Scientific Council is a group of well experienced fire protection scientists and engineers from testing laboratories, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), research institutes and universities around the world. It provides advisory input to IWMA on technical and scientific matters, evaluates the IWMA conference abstracts, applications for the IWMA Young Talent Award and offers guidance to the water mist industry. It also participates in research programmes and provides technical and scientific guidance to the fire protection industry, especially when related to water mist systems or best practices. About IWMA The International Water Mist Association is the first association of its kind dedicated exclusively to water mist firefighting and related technologies. The IWMA was founded on 4th April 1998 and began maintaining a permanent office at the beginning of 2000. From the IWMA’s international headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, it supports the continued development, research and applications engineering of generic water mist systems. Manufacturers, distributors, insurance companies, scientific institutes, approval bodies, fire departments as well as private persons are members of the IWMA.
