Streamlight launches high lumen model of Scorpion

Scorpion HL offers 600 Lumen output and three user-selectable programs Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the Scorpion® HL, which uses state-of-the-art LED technology to deliver 600 lumens. Weighing less than five ounces, and featuring a rubber-armored sleeve to provide a sure grip, the new high lumen (HL) light is the ideal personal carry light for everyone from officers on the beat to outdoor enthusiasts.   "Like our other high lumen products, the Scorpion HL is designed to provide maximum illumination, by flooding a whole room, vehicle or area with extremely bright light, and revealing what might be concealed in dark corners or along perimeters,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. The Scorpion HL is our exciting next generation offering to the proven Scorpion design.”   The new model uses a C4® power LED to produce a wide, sweeping beam of 600 lumens and 16,000 candela, a run time of one hour and 15 minutes, and a beam distance of 253 meters on the high setting. On low, the light offers 33 lumens, 800 candela, a run time of 18 hours and a beam distance of 57 meters. The light also provides a strobe mode, which runs for 2.5 hours.   The Scorpion HL features a TEN-TAP® programmable switch that permits users to select from among three different programs: high/strobe/low (the factory default); high only, or low/high. It includes a multi-function, push-button tail switch that allows for one-handed operation of the light’s momentary, variable intensity or strobe modes. The light uses two (2) 3 volt CR123A lithium batteries.   The new model is fabricated from 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum with an anodized finish. It weighs only 4.8 ounces, and measures just 5.46 inches. Impact resistance-tested to one meter, the light also is rated IPX7 for waterproof operation to one meter for 30 minutes.   The Scorpion HL has an MSRP of $120.00 and includes Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty. Grand opening for Hong Kong Fire Training Unit

A mobile training facility from HAAGEN® At the beginning of February the Hong Kong Fire Services Department began operating a mobile training facility from HAAGEN®, leading manufacturer of firefighter training products and complete training systems, a cooperation partner of the LHD Group. By means of the special technology of the Fire Class A training facility, situations can be simulated with real flames, extreme heat, high humidity, severely limited visibility and thick smoke without pollution of the environment. The mobile unit has its own electrical power supply and it is planned to be put into operation at 10 different locations in Hong Kong. During the exercises, the firemen wear original LION firefighting suits from the LHD Group in order to train emergency situations in full gear as realistically as possible. These suits were developed specially for the Hong Kong Fire Services Department and, in addition to a high level of freedom of movement and breathability, provide an optimum in protection for the forces in action. Within the scope of the TotalCare® contract with the Hong Kong Fire Services Department the LHD Group Hong Kong is responsible for the supply, cleaning and maintenance of more than 13,000 sets of firemen’s clothing for the ca. 6,500 members of the fire service, together with the logistics involved.

FAAST Installed at KAC for Factory Protection and CPD webinars

The system is housed in a new, purpose-built customer experience centre System Sensor, part of Honeywell, has installed a live demonstration of its FAAST aspiration system at the KAC Manufacturing Facility in Redditch. The system is housed in a new, purpose-built customer experience centre, where regular CPD webinars and events will be hosted from the end of March.   Part of the demo system is configured to replicate a hostile, powder rich manufacturing environment, where FAAST was selected over competing products after a six-month evaluation exercise. It uses large quantities of powder, with particulate sizes ranging from 50 to 100 µm. The other part of the demo system is protecting KAC’s injection moulding facility which is subject to challenging environmental conditions and includes high value assets.   Honeywell’s Tim Checketts, who manages and presents the CPD aspiration programme, said, “The live demo facility allows us to take our CPD webinar programme online and to show how FAAST achieves false alarm immunity in real life hostile environments where other forms of fire detection normally fail. We have so far delivered more than 50 face-to-face seminars throughout the UK to more than 700 fire system designers, insurance assessors and electrical consultants, and we are expecting significant interest in the online programme. The ability to show additional features such remote management via a web browser and the Acclimate mode will be particularly attractive.”   Russull McNamara, Site Leader at KAC, stresses the importance of using the right fire detection products for the right environments. He said: “KAC manufactures two million call points and AV devices per annum therefore it’s vital that we achieve 100% manufacturing uptime. Products like FAAST are ideal for challenging areas. Our injection moulding processes emit fumes which can cause problems for traditional fire detectors as it can be recognised as smoke and therefore can cause false alarms. Sophisticated filtration and features like IP integration give us additional confidence that we have complete protection.”   The next face-to-face CPD seminars are being held in Manchester on 5th March and London on the 13th of March as part of the Construction CPD Roadshow programme. assist mine fire fight TWO 500 millimetre diameter, 4.7 kilometre long pipes are currently being constructed inside the Hazelwood open cut mine to assist with the removal of water. This will assist with maintaining stability in the mine and allowing increased water capacity for fire fighting if required. Incident controller Bob Barry said being able to remove more water from the mine floor means more water can be pumped onto the burning coal. It also keeps the mine floor in better condition for fire fighters to operate. "The piping is being connected to four large pumps – including two new pumps just brought into the mine – and will be operational Wednesday evening,” Mr Barry said. “Currently we are pumping up to 84,000 litres of water every minute from the mine’s cooling ponds and other sources onto the fire and these new pumps and pipes will allow us to increase that which should be an improvement in this fire fight. “We need to manage all the water being poured onto the fire and make sure it’s removed from the mine floor. These pumps will not only help us keep a balance, they allow us to get the upper hand by removing water faster from the mine which lets us get more water onto the fire.” At least two strike teams have been brought in ahead of difficult conditions on Tuesday. “We have had very good success over the past few days and fire activity in the mine has significantly reduced,” Mr Barry said. “Tuesday could be challenging so the additional strike teams will be there to stop fires that escape from the mine – as occurred last week – so we don’t have to divert resources from within the mine.” The strategy being successfully used along the coal batters is that an aviation fire tender that carries 9000 litres of water and uses an on-board nozzle (which penetrates the coal), drives though and cools an area, then Compressed Air Foam units and aerial trucks apply foam to soak into the fire for a few hours before crews using thermal imaging cameras extinguish remaining hotspots. To further support this strategy an extra seven high capacity (4000lt) tankers have been requested. “We won’t hand this fire back to the mine until it no longer presents a threat. We are confident we will put this fire out,” Mr Barry said. The CFA Health Support Team, supported by local health professionals is currently undertaking an average of 1600 health checks a day at the Hazelwood power station staging area. HST state co-ordinator Peter Langridge said the team was working round the clock to measure the levels of carbon monoxide in the blood of mine workers, emergency services personnel and visitors to the staging area. “The process takes less than a minute and involves a simple test using a Masimo CO-oximeter, which is placed around a finger and gives a percentage reading almost instantly,” Mr Langridge said. “We’ve seen an average of four people every 24 hour period with slightly elevated levels of between five and seven per cent and one to two per day with medium elevated levels. “Anyone who has a reading of more than eight per cent is assessed by a paramedic and either released to go home and not return for 48 hours, or, if they’re showing any other symptoms, they’re referred to the Latrobe Regional Hospital. This is a quick and efficient method of constantly monitoring personnel who are spending time in or near the mine in the current conditions.” Temporary relocation away from smoke is recommended for people aged over 65, pre-school aged children (under 5, including babies and infants), pregnant women and anyone with a pre-existing heart or lung condition living or working in Morwell South, south of the railway line. E2S Warning Signals attains new TR CU Certificate

For Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan  E2S are pleased to announce the attainment of these new certifications for products from their fire & industrial, explosion proof and wide area disaster notification portfolios. The new TR CU Declaration of Conformity certifies compliance to the new, harmonised Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Community (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and fulfillment of safety requirements. Streamlight recycles 10,000lbs of rechargeable batteries in 2013

Company and distributors collect 3,500lbs during fourth quarter Streamlight®, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance flashlights, announced that the company and several of its U.S. distribution partners recycled nearly 3,500 pounds of rechargeable batteries during the fourth quarter of 2013, with a year-to-date total of over 10,000 pounds.   Streamlight’s corporate headquarters in Eagleville, PA, recycled just over 3,000 pounds of Nickel Cadmium, Lithium Ion, Nickel Metal Hydride, and small Sealed Lead Acid batteries during the fourth quarter. Participating distributors recycled nearly 500 pounds during the same period.   The company and its distributors are partners with Call2Recycle®, the only free rechargeable battery recycling program in North America.
