Two brand new Honda 110V portable generators available for the emergency services

Seddons Plant & Engineers Ltd has introduced two brand new Honda 110V Portable Generators to offer the Emergency Services reliable and ultra-quiet power generation in emergency situations. The Honda EU10i 110V model delivers 0.9kW of clean, quiet electricity to power sensitive equipment, whilst the Honda EU17i 110V model delivers 1.7kW of smooth, clean power for more demanding applications. Both the Honda EU10i and Honda EU17i are ultra-quiet in operation and the fully enclosed, sound reducing casing keeps noise down to just 52 decibels at 7 metres, which is quieter than normal conversational speech. Rubber feet minimise vibration and movement and Honda’s state-of-the-art Inverter technology allows the EU10i and EU17i to remain much smaller and lighter than comparable models, allowing them to be super portable and carried with ease.  Stephen Seddon, Managing Director of Seddons Plant & Engineers Ltd said: “There has been a great deal of demand for these 110V Portable Generators from fire and rescue services, police and forensics, the Ministry of Defence and other organisations involved in emergency prevention, response and recovery. They’re ultra-quiet so can be used in residential locations with minimal disturbance, and because they are compact and lightweight, they can be stored on emergency vehicles and easily carried to built-up areas or remote locations by one person. Although they’re highly portable, they’re still very powerful and deliver stable energy that’s even cleaner than electricity for the mains. The power delivered is free of surges or ‘spikes’ that can be detrimental in emergency situations.” The smaller EU10i model is just 13kg in weight and is powered by an efficient Honda 4-stroke engine with a 2.1 litre fuel tank. Honda’s unique EcoThrottle extends fuel economy further by allowing the generator to idle, speeding up only when there is demand for more power. This feature cuts down noise and fuel use, saving users money as well as giving extended periods of power without refuelling. The EU10i model provides 8.3 hours running time on a single tank and is suitable for powering all sorts of power tools and machinery, including sensitive electronic equipment. The EU17i is powerful enough to run larger equipment, yet at 21kg it can be carried with ease. Powered by a Honda 4-stroke engine with a 3.6 litre fuel tank, it runs for over 10 hours on a single tank of fuel, ensuring minimal fuel costs and maximum engine life. Like the EU10i, the unique EcoThrottle runs only as fast as the load demands, improving fuel consumption and extending engine life. Both models are available to purchase from Seddons Plant & Engineers Ltd branches nationwide, by contacting 0845 230 4862 or by visiting www.seddonplant.co.uk

Drax Technology launches even smarter fire alarm testing with SMaRT Mobile

Drax Technology, one of the UK’s leading independent providers of integrated fire protection and alarm management solutions, has launched a new mobile unit designed to streamline fire alarm maintenance, making it smarter, safer and simpler. SMaRT Mobile enables fire alarm service companies to more effectively keep track of fire alarm status across every client location and their engineers’ progress in servicing and testing these alarms. SMaRT Mobile uses the same cloud-based server as Drax Technology’s SMaRT Web system launched last year. However, SMaRT Mobile enables fire alarm service engineers to carry their own units with them as they go from job to job, connecting it to the system when they arrive and removing it when finished. Because the system connects to the panels of all major fire alarm manufacturers, a uniform process can be established, regardless of client or location. Using either WiFi or GPRS connectivity, SMaRT Mobile records and transmits data on each device test to a remote database, showing that a thorough service has been completed. As with SMaRT Web, this data can be made available to clients either by providing log-in details or by generating a report that can be sent along with an invoice. It also acts as a valuable compliance tool for both the service company and a building owner, proving that vital tasks have been carried out. Sold on annual subscription per mobile unit, each can be connected to as many fire alarm systems as required. “We see this new, mobile unit as a valuable addition to our series of SMaRT interfaces which allow the monitoring and management of many different alarms or systems to be centralised. This provides operators and management with a user-friendly interface and a wealth of data all in one location,” says Keith Minster, product manager, Drax Technology.   “Organisations are able to make more effective use of resources, reduce costs and deliver higher visibility of all the installed systems regardless of geography.”

FBU says decommissioned engines could have saved man's life

The Fire Brigades Union has urged London Mayor Boris Johnson to scrap plans to cut fire services in the capital after the death of an 86 year old man in a blaze in Barnsbury. London Fire Brigade firefighters took eight minutes 56 seconds to arrive at the scene of the fire, which claimed the life of Mr Raymond Lister, nearly three minutes behind the target of six minutes, as crews from the nearest station were busy attending an incident in another location. A second engine also arrived around three minutes late, missing its eight minute target.  The Mayor has come under attack over plans to axe 13 fire engines in a bid to save £11.5 million from the fire service budget. The nearest fire station to the blaze, at Clerkenwell, was closed in 2014 as part of the cuts process.  Fire Brigades Union London secretary Paul Embery said: “An inquest must take place into the death of Mr Lister. “However, we already know that the brigade has failed again to meet its target response time at a fatal fire. “We also know that the borough where it happened has seen a 60 per cent cut in its fire cover in the last three years. “It would therefore be incredibly reckless for Boris Johnson to continue with his planned cuts until all the lessons from this tragic incident have been learned.” A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman, speaking to the Islington Tribune, which broke the story, blamed the delay on “poorly parked cars and road width restrictions.”
