The key government partners and organiser also addressed media at the show’s official press conference today (16 January), presenting the latest developments in protecting life and assets in a Middle East market where demand for security, safety, and fire protection products and solutions will continue to climb. According to analysts 6WResearch, the Middle East market for physical and perimeter security, commercial and information security, fire protection, and drones, is currently worth a combined US$14.5 billion. This is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.5 percent over the next six years, valuing US$31 billion in 2024. Physical, perimeter, and commercial security, comprising monitoring and surveillance systems, restricted entry systems, access control, intrusion detection, and perimeter security, holds the lion’s share of the market, valuing US$10.8 billion in 2018, and estimated to more than double in value over the next six years to be worth US$23 billion by 2024. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the key contributors, currently comprising nearly 60 percent of the market for physical, perimeter, and commercial security (US$6.48 billion), on account of favourable government regulations, infrastructure development, and adoption of new technologies across industry verticals such as retail, hospitality, banking, aviation, transport, oil & gas, and construction. The Middle East fire safety systems and equipment market will also increase by eight percent annually says 6WResearch, valuing US$3 billion in 2024, from an estimated US$1.9 billion in 2018.  The markets for information security (from US$1.4 billion in 2018 to US$2.7 billion in 2024), and drones (US$510 million to US$2.4 billion), are also in-line for solid growth. The 15 country pavilions are coming from Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, and the USA. With 83% international participation, some of Intersec’s most notable country growth has come from Saudi Arabia, which covers 41 percent more exhibition space in 2019 (211sqm) compared to 2018. Other growth countries include Spain, which occupies 47 percent more space this year (589sqm); Canada (466sqm, 35 percent y-o-y increase), France (386sqm, 19 percent increase); Lebanon (183sqm, 101 percent increase), and Austria (190sqm, 43 percent increase).  UAE participation meanwhile remains strong, with 162 exhibitors covering 10,000sqm of exhibition space. Trident emergency products increase its Titan foam pump offerings and introduces complete pump & motor packages Trident have been developing the Titan line of rotary gear, positive displacement foam pumps for fixed foam system applications, mobile apparatus foam systems and medium pressure water mist systems. Titan pumps have reportedly been specially designed with features and benefits found nowhere else.  Manufacturers reviewed the good and the bad of many foam pumps on the market today and developed the Titan line to provide superior performance and longevity.  All of the pump models were created around the same features: All-bronze pump bodies, heads, and rotors. Heat treated 17-4PH stainless steel pump shafts for excellent corrosion resistance and superior rotor/shaft support. Silicon carbide mechanical pump seals prevent foam from contacting pump shafts, eliminating the shaft corrosion and pitting that leads to our competitors’ leaky lip seals. Sealed, double row spherical roller bearings provide superior rotor/shaft support and eliminate routine lubrication maintenance. No axial float eliminates side contact and rubbing wear. Splash oil lubricated timing gear drive system prevents rotor-to-rotor contact, rotor wear and heat build-up. This drive system increases efficiency and allows for extended periods of dry running. Square EPDM sealing rings between the body and heads provide superior sealing over standard paper gaskets. All pumps are assembled with stainless steel fasteners. Compatible with any type of foam concentrate and rated to a working pressure of 300 PSI (20.7 BAR). Foam system calibration, testing and training can be done with water at full pressure, eliminating expensive foam concentrates and ground contamination. Power sources include electric, diesel/gasoline engines, or PTO drives; water or hydraulic motors. The pump design allows for very close machining tolerances providing increased pump efficiencies versus our competitors.  This increased efficiency provides significant cost savings by lowering the power requirements (HP) of the power source. Trident offers a full line of Titan pumps ranging from 30 GPM (115 LPM) to 500 GPM (1890 LPM) – all self-priming.  All models are designed and built in accordance with NFPA 20 Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection and NFPA 1901 Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus.  Five models are UL Listed in accordance with UL Standard 448C Stationary, Rotary Gear Type, Positive-Displacement Pumps for Fire Protection Service. Hochiki Europe and FIA host roundtable discussing life safety in HMOs Hochiki Europe has partnered with the FIA (Fire Industry Association) to host a roundtable discussing best practice when it comes to life safety in Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs). Panellists were made up of professionals involved throughout the life safety procurement chain, including representatives from the manufacturing, facilities management, consultancy/specification and installation sectors, as well as the FIA itself. Participants comprised: Ian Watts, Emergency Lighting Manager, Hochiki Europe; Richard Wharram, Regional Sales Manager, Hochiki Europe; Will Lloyd, Technical Manager, FIA David Thewlis, Director, Rosse Systems and Neil Wright, an Independent Electrical Engineer. The event followed the release of Hochiki Europe’s most recent whitepaper outlining several grey areas regarding different systems being installed in HMOs. During the session, held at the FIA’s training centre in Hampton, London, panellists debated having exclusive Part 1 or Part 6 systems within HMOs, or the benefits of having mixed systems in place. The discussion also focused on perceived confusion around the definition of an ‘HMO’, as well as specific challenges for duty holders and best practice when selecting emergency lighting in these types of buildings. He commented: “This was a necessary and worthwhile discussion which brought up some urgent issues for all parties that must be addressed if we are to protect people living in HMOs. Pierce secures order of 11 custom apparatus for Greenwood County Fire Service in South Carolina Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation company, has announced that it has secured an order of 11 custom apparatus for Greenwood County Fire Service in South Carolina. The order is made up of custom apparatus including five Saber FR pumpers, four Pierce dry-side tankers, an Ascendant 107 inch aerial ladder and a Pierce 100 inch heavy-duty rear mount aerial tower. This monumental apparatus order for Greenwood County Fire Service has been placed in partnership with South Carolina’s exclusive Pierce dealer, Spartan Fire and Emergency Apparatus. “We were in search for an apparatus provider who could supply a multi-truck order, supply and mount all of the equipment needed to stock the apparatus to NFPA guidelines and to service the units as needed in the future,” said Steve Holmes, Fire Coordinator, Greenwood County Fire Service. “This significant apparatus order is replacing an aging fleet and equipment that averaged 28 years of service and we look forward to retiring those trucks.” Holmes continued, “Pierce Manufacturing is recognised as a leading supplier of apparatus all across the country and our panel of Chief officers were impressed with their product and of the reputation of Spartan Fire & Emergency Apparatus, who presented the offer. Korean company IDIS, one of the world’s top surveillance technology manufacturers, is a regular Intersec exhibitor that’s hitting double digit year-on-year sales growth in the Middle East, a position that it largely attributes to contacts made at the annual three-day event. “Many of our system integration partnerships resulted from engagement and introductions made at Intersec and we can track this back since our first appearance at the show in 2014,” said Harry Kwon, General Manager of IDIS Middle East and Africa. “These include Almajal G4S in KSA, Almoayyed in Bahrain and EMS in Egypt to name but a few.  The result is an extensive and broad range of successful deployments of IDIS technology across government, education, retail, banking and many other commercial organisations. “We’re hitting double digit sales growth year-on-year and continuing to increase our market share and geographical reach by expanding our sales channels,” added Kwon. Kwon said IDIS will look to up the ante with a series of new product launches later this month at Intersec 2019, including the latest iteration of its IDIS Deep Learning Analytics (IDLA) platform,  “IDLA has opened a new door to the future of video analytics with ground-breaking 96% accuracy combined with a 200 ips speed allowing for the analysis of 32 channels simultaneously,” he said. “What’s more we’ll launch our latest fisheye advancements at Intersec, which include improved peripheral resolution through an upgraded Panomorph lens on the 12MP model and a new 5MP compact model perfect for smaller applications and installation in confined spaces.” Intersec 2019 covers the seven sections of Commercial Security; Fire & Rescue; Perimeter & Physical Security; Safety & Health; Homeland Security & Policing; Information Security; and Smart Home & Building Automation. ULTITEC is one of more than 150 exhibitors in the Safety & Health section, and will showcase its extensive range of protective clothing used by professionals in the oil & gas, aviation, construction and automotive industries. Jason Lin, ULTITEC’s General Manager, said its range of technical textiles are widely used by global conglomerates and local companies alike such as Qatar Gas, Shell, ExxonMobil, and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company). “At Intersec, we’ll focus on chemical and liquid jet resistant protective clothing such as the ULTITEC 5000 and ULTITEC 4000, which recently won the tender to be applied in PETRONAS Malaysia, one of the world’s largest and most forward-looking oil and gas producers,” said Lin. “Our unique fabric technology of microporous film provides breathability and is perfectly suitable for excessive heat environments in the Middle East. It prevents occupational heat exposure as the microporous size is smaller than a water drop and larger than moisture vapour, offering exceptional comfort without compromising superior protection.” Elsewhere Matrix Comsec from India is one of more than 50 exhibitors at Intersec’s Information Security section that will look to capitalise on opportunities in a Middle East cyber security market that’s estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11 percent from 2018-2024. According to analysts 6Wresearch, revenues from the Middle East information security market will reach US$2.7 billion in 2024, compared to US$1.4 billion in 2018. With the cloud playing an increasingly important role in the storage and processing of important data, Abhay Joshi, Global Sales Head at Matrix Comsec, said Middle East organisations are taking measures to adopt high-end solutions that prevent unauthorised access and cyber-breaches. “Organisational data is the most important resource that companies have, so firms are opting for secure cloud-based solutions,” said Joshi.  “At Intersec 2019, we’ll launch our cloud based Time-Attendance and Access Control solution COSEC VYOM. “Up until now, Matrix offered on premise solutions, but now customers will have the choice of deploying the solution either on the cloud or on premises. We’ll also launch our mobile based COSEC APTA Face Recognition Technology. This might be helpful for corporates and manufacturing sectors whereby normal biometric technology fails to operate,” added Joshi. Commercial Security will be the largest section on the exhibition floor, with more than 450 exhibitors, including two-thirds of the world’s top 50 commercial security providers. Fire & Rescue is the next largest section, with more than 400 exhibitors, followed by Safety & Health (150 exhibitors) Homeland Security & Policing (100 exhibitors); Perimeter and Physical Security (100 exhibitors), and Information Security (50). A revamped conference line-up will be spearheaded by the Intersec Future Security Summit, raising key issues on Artificial Intelligence, security integration, emergency preparedness and response, data protection, and the Internet of Things. The one-day Intersec Fire Conference on 21st January will provide insights into the changing global trends in fire protection and its implications on the Middle East, while Dubai’s Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA) Forum will also return with the latest updates in security law and industry regulations in Dubai. Returning popular features to Intersec 2019 include the Drone Zone, an Outdoor Demo Area, a Smart Home Pavilion and the Safety Design in Buildings Pavilion.  More than 150 exhibitors will also participate for the first time, while Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, and the USA comprise the 14 country pavilions.
